Tbr7 kenda millville2 front tire

Hi all. 2020 tbr7. I replaced the stock front 50/50 front tire with a kenda millville2 70/100/19 front tire. It was the only dirt front tire available for that 19 inch rim. And 70/100/17 was the only size I. Could find. Stock front tire is worthless offroad on anything other than hardpack, and DANGEROUS in sand!
I only have put 10km so far to get to some dirt/sand, and only rode slow to get there. Im not very impressed by the kenda tire in sand, it still wanders around and doesn't feel planted. I know there is a break in period, but im running 18 psi. And I still don't feel confident with it. The tire is not very wide, its used for smaller bikes. (Cr85-crf150) not 300lb Tbr7 tanks. I'll update it if it getts better with break in, or psi adjusted. It does have impressive knobs, I waz hoping for more BITE! I also replaced the tube with a I.R.C. tube. Im glad I ordered one.
Stock tube is THIN. I also have a new rear tire/tube coming, MAXXIS. IT enduro knobbie, 100/100/17. Ill keep you posted on that.
Safe riding.
Christopher

Did you mount the tire yourself or have a shop do it?

Curious if you had any surprises installing and if the metal rim was soft?

Hi king, and all. I mounted the tire by myself, BEWARE! if you have black painting on the rims, like I think you do! You MUST protect the rim with something if you do it yourself.
Also get proper tools, I used a couple of screwdrivers and such. It was a pain, but I got it done. I put a small hole in the stock tube getting the tire off, its REAL thin. I replaced the stock tube with a I.R.C. tube, highly recommend. 70/100/19 is the only size full knobby I could find, and I looked all over. Tire is only about 3.4 inches wide and looks thin kn the bike and looks like it isnt designed for the rim. I dont know how to post pics on here or I would send a pic. It kinda looks like the rim isnt wide enough to accept the tire, therefore not letting it expand out to proper size, if you can visualize that. As for the sand, I think its to narrow and just trenches into it. A wider tire would get on top and track straight.
I would recommend having a shop install. I scratched off some paint on my rims. I taped up my rims, then I circled the rim with playing cards and then put tape on them to hold them in position ( sorta, kinda, thought it was a good idea, this will work, NOPE! )
Have a shop do it.
Safe riding
Christopher

The only way to ride soft sand is ride faster than you want so you stay on top..
Once the wheels start to plower it is all over.. Keep your weight on the rear
to lighten the front wheel..
Get use to the bike moving around just part of riding sand..

-what pete said.

while i agree some tires do better than others, there is no tire that does " good" in soft deep sand .Well, not that you can mount on a normal motorcycle front end anyways.
it's more technique than anything i live in FLA and sand is the bane of our existence.,just keep at it once you "get it " then it wont give you nearly as many problems, it can be difficult to learn how since it is sorta counter intuitive ,intentionally going faster than you feel comfortable with to keep the front end on top, but that be how it is. The up side is soft deep sand even if you crash ( and you will ) rarely results in much other than injured pride lol,

Thanks buddy.... I do indeed have black painted rims, hence why I asked... too many gouged out enduro rims from folks doing the DIY
