Taotao 250 carb suggestions

Hello all. In my attempts to get my new to me Taotao 250 running I seem to have lost my idle mixture screw. I'm sure I can probably buy just the screw to replace it, but I've seen it mentioned a lot that it's best to upgrade the carb on these things. So, I'm here to ask for what the top suggestion is for the upgrade.

I'm using this Mikuni clone carb with 30 pilot, 115 main, and 4th notch down on needle https://www.amazon.com/FI-parts-Mikuni-Carburettor-Motorcycle-Motorbike/dp/B07F387YWP

Pilot Jet
https://www.jetsrus.com/a_jets_by_ca...-486_pilot.htm

Main Jet
https://www.jetsrus.com/a_jets_by_ca...arge_round.htm

This really opens up the engine to its full potential over the stock carburetor.

I actually ended up going with this one. It was delivered yesterday afternoon and I had it instants sitting about 30 minutes and it worked perfectly. Turned in the fuel and got the starter button and BOOM it came to life and idled without any issues.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CN36W65..._.Y.kDbDRWV7DY

I'm going to run it like this (came with 100 and 40 jets), but I will definitely be working with the jetting on it soon. And probably look into the gearing as well. For now, though, I have to work on rebuilding the brakes because they just BARELY work at all.

Another thread on carbs and lack of understanding
Tune the carb regardless of what it is will give you what you seek!
Mikuni fakes or stock has little or any real difference in real life.

Here’s a kit to tune the bikes
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F303210680840

Untuned carb to a tuned carb is not apples to apples
Nothing to do with the brand or copy version of carbs

Makes me giggle when ppl are just plain daft

Minkuni isn’t really an upgrade
this is more in upgrade tho a pumper carb

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F303210684482

But learning on stock carb is a good thing as this is the same plus the accelerator pump added and is a better option then say Mikuni clone which is basically just a fraction better finished then a stock carb.

Mikuni is just a popular thing nothing to little benefit and very uncommon in china or on china bikes

How’d it open up if you didn’t tune the stock carb? That’s fake news lad
Tune stock carb n compare to timed Mikuni then you have something a little scientific to compare too

I run the stock carb on my Rhino. Only changes are a foam pod filter and a 98 main jet, stock is 94. Around 560 hours so far. Runs great, plug color good. Wouldn't have any need for another horsepower even if a replacement carb would provide that.

Going to the Rocky mountains next month so I'll take along the 94 main jet to run at high altitude. Rode it to 9700' a few weeks ago where there was noticeably less power.

Hunting down the right jets for the stock carb, prying brass plug out, and replacing screws that the heads were cut off really was not in the cards. Didn't feel like buying a bunch of jets so I could find the right ones to test with. Didn't feel like hunting down the tiny screws to put it all back together right either. Didn't feel like wasting a couple days testing and changing jets. Sorry if that doesn't suit you NzBrakelathes but it suited me and my wallet just fine.

$30 and problem solved. All the information needed to set the the Mikuni clone up was right here and problem solved quickly and on the cheap. Large power increase followed.

It would be nice to know where you guys get the jets to tweak the stock carb. Yes it is an option for some.

Instead of trolling me NzBrakelathes maybe you should post some specifics on where to get the jets... what ones work..... and at what altitudes like Mudflap has... maybe even add what size the little bowl screws are.

Nothing wrong with Mikuni carbs but I'm cheap, and a mechanic, so modding the original carb suits me.

I don't replace the float bowl screws, I slot them with a dremil tool and cut off wheel. For the brass plug I drill a tiny hole, screw in a sheet metal screw, and pull it out with a pliers. All of this takes less of my time and energy than ordering a new carb. For jets I have a collection from other projects but "Keihin small round" main jets fit. Usually order from Jets Are Us. Haven't researched what kind of pilot jet works but the stock size works OK for me.

Doing business with you is definitely not in the cards either NzBrakelathes ... figured you wouldn't share any information... doesn't agree with your wallet does it.. LOL fake news.. hahahahaha that would make you click bait.

Thanks Mudflap... What you said is a start but can't find the "small round jets" you describe on the Jet r Us site in the Keihin section. https://www.jetsrus.com/a_jets_by_ca..._selection.htm

I wouldn't mind messing with the stock carb to have a spare for the parts bag.

Can you tell me what you went with for an air filter. With the new carb, the stock air filter obviously doesn't work (or, at least it doesn't for me unless I'm missing something obvious which I wouldn't be surprised about)

I used this filter https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008OEQ6WU

I ran mine under the seat in the well to protect it from water. My Rhino spends a lot of time in the creek and stream crossings. I did it by getting a PVC bent elbow and some rubber reducers in the Home Depot plumbing dept.... Was Onhoard's idea... i just copied it. http://www.chinariders.net/showthrea...t=rhino&page=2

Thank you, it's in my cart waiting for my next order. So far I don't know what I'll be using this thing for. It was given to me and I love in the city, so I'm going to have to get creative to make use of it. 😁 That's a long way of saying that I'll probably leave the filter on the carb for now. 😊

Same here... I have just enough of a backyard to do a tight circle.... LOL

Last time out I was on a new property with hundreds of acres of trails and logging roads... first time I was able to ride for 4 hrs straight while exploring where I would be mining at.
