1 full year

1 full year today since I paid for the CB. Figured I would give it a present. Cleaned the carb up, new filter and oil, new tail/brake socket/bulb. It *idles slightly better at 1100rpm with the clean up. New filter lowered the volume at the tail pipe considerably.

*A thing I noticed is I’m about plum out of idle adjustment space on the screw, 1 more 1/3 turn and it’s fully tight. I have kept the mix screw at 2 full turns out from tight. I feel like I have to bump the idle back up via the idle screw about every other month. So by August I will be out of room if the procedure keeps going as is. Hmmm.

hey Chip... Have you tried a PZ30 carb on it??? may give you more adjustment room... I use the PZ 30 and have a lot of room on mine... runs really good... I don't mess with my adjustments daily.. just set it and go...

If you cleaned out the pilot jet and idle mixture circuit and still have turn out the mixture screw more that 2 turns then you will need a larger pilot jet.

It came with the PZ30. That got changed to the Mikuni with 117.5/25 jetting.

Ok. I believe I have a 27.5 I can tryout. How many turns back should I start with if I swap to the 27?

I was getting massive sounding back fires when letting off the throttle at 50mph is what inspired me to crack the carb open and tinker. It ran great this morning but had to start it 4 times in a row.

Start at 1 1/2 turns out. Those are all signs of too lean idle and low speed mixture.

I had a 27.5 pilot on my last Hawk because a 25 was on the lean side with full bolt ons. I ran a 115 main during the hotter months, and a 117.5 when it was cooler (around 50deg. range). I agree with Jerry, up the pilot size.

Ok thanks again guys. I’ll give the 27 a whirl with 1.5 turns in the fuel mix screw.
