TaoTao TBR7 Rear Sprocket Replacement Question

I just bought a new tbr7 still in the crate in my driveway, hopefully tomorrow I can start assembly, this is the new model with rear disc brake, I ordered a Hawk 250 front 17T, rear 40T sprocket and H4 led bulb. (thinking it's same as Hawk also)

Now after reading paulsstag post, i'm thinking the rear sprocket won`t work:( tracking has sprocket here today, also looks like I need a H6m type bulb.

Anyone knows if the "new" rear hub with disc sprocket is for sure different than drum? if so, what sprocket type do I need to order? I'm hoping the sprocket is the same as Hawk 250, now with new disc type? I would appreciate any input or information I could get.

The disc rear end is an unknown right now so if you would please keep us posted on the rear sprocket, my guess is they will use the same hub assy as a hawk and tt250 because they are readily available and i assume cheap ? Also if the bolt pattern is too big on your ordered sprocket then it could be the smaller pcd as the drum brake TBR7 (78mm if i remember). If this is the case then @jeffrey said a JTR810 in 42 or 48 should work?

Also considering the led bulb so keep us posted on which one you use and how it compares to stock ? Night time photos taken at the same place with a shot of high beam and low beam for each bulb would be great.

Good luck with the bike.

New sprocket arrived...

Good hear from you Paulsstag and Jeffrey and Thank you for the information. I have the new sprocket, JTR269.39, I thought it was 40T but I guess it's a 39T, gearing will be 17/39 looks like, sprocket out of the package and measuring what I can without bolting up, it's looking good so far, looks same to me but tomorrow morning we'll know for sure, bright and early I will uncrate and start assembly.

I will update tomorrow asap, maybe I'm going overboard but before I start it, fresh rotella is going in and I'm checking the valve gap. Going with the .05 exhaust and intake at first and see how it goes. I'm really curious how the carb will do, I haven't bought another carb or jets yet, just wanted see how it runs out first, I'm going with a low load slow break in, so not a lot of full throttle 5th gear run outs for awhile.

Going to be a fun full morning of turning wrenches.

Update

JTR269 rear sprocket works, tight going on, wood mallet tapped on. I bought a new 428/128 chain, 17t front and 39t rear the 128 chain is adjusted almost all the way back and has a little slack. When I took the rear tire off with original sprockets and chain, it was adjust all the way forward and the chain was tight, like the chain is almost too short, I have not counted the links on the original chain but I suspect it's much shorter than hawk 130 link and I will have to use the original chain to have any adjustment.

This morning first thing, just to get front tire on and the bike out of the crate, it was not a easy job by myself with the help of a motorcycle jack only. I would recommend having a friend or maybe 2 to help and use air tools or cordless impact to disassemble the steel bolted crate. 14mm bolt, 13mm nut on inside.

Having a helping hand during uncrating definitely helps to at least get the bike on its wheels. I did my first Hawk by myself and used an engine hoist to lift the bike up lol.

I thought about using my engine hoist but dragging it out would have been another job. I'm fresh off chemo and radiation. It don't take a lot to get me tired. This morning I just took out of the crate, front tire assembly and the sprockets changed, it's rolling but did not start or anything like that. I still have the small bits to attach, oil change and valve adjustment. Tomorrow I'll be at Dr's all day but Saturday morning I can dig back in

Ratchet straps work well too if you have something to hook them to overhead.

Praying for a quick recover.

Thank you, JerryHawk250

I did my Florida title and registration today, 1 of the reasons I bought the TBR7 is it seemed to be a little less of a hassle to title & tag for the street, I found a few used hawk 250's on Craigslist, all listed as having paperwork but no title and tag, no one replied if I asked if they tried get a title and had issues.

Only hiccup today at the DMV with the tbr7, after the clerk searched "the list" a while, not finding TaoTao, I was worried a little but at the end of the list, they finally found it under "Zhejiang Taotao Vehicles Co., Ltd" seems the manufacture is the Zhejiang Co.? DMV cost $176.50 total, transfer, tax and tag transfer.

I did have to go back to the original chain, I still didn't count links on the original chain, keep forgetting, the 128 link I bought was too long, when I need a chain again, I'll take links out of. the new 128 unibear chain.

This morning, oil change with rotella and did valve adjustment, like everything else, chain to every bolt, excessively tight. I'm glad I did valve adjustment, after researching I settled on .004 intake / .006 exhaust, getting closer to first start

I went to attach the tag on the bike and found the smaller motorcycle tag holes don't align. Looks like maybe made to fit larger car type plate. I'm going to drill new holes in the bracket.

First start today, I had hoped the carb would run OK with choke off but like most, you have to run the bike on half choke but runs good, took as much throttle as I ask, after break in, I'll play around with jetting.

Thanks NzBrakelathes

I think I have it sorted, drilled holes in the bracket for the license plate, just inside the original slots for the larger plate, if the factory would have extended the slot 2cm more inside it would have worked perfect.
