Water in air box

So last time I rode in the rain I got water in my engine. Found out my air hose had come loose from box and let water in through the vent hose from air box to crankcase. I installed a Pcv valve and plugged up my hose to air box. So today was first time riding on wet ground, light rain and bike bogged down wouldn’t run for long. So I opened the air box and again it’s got a lot of water in it. No water in oil like before but it’s still letting water into carb and bogging. So I searched with an air hose trying to find a leak in air box and nothing. Anyone have any ideas on how to find where waters getting into box? Or what else I can do to not have this problem every time it’s wet out.

I've had mine apart a lot. I don't think it's airflow bringing it from the front only, but also from the bottom up off the back of the engine. The ports are wide open and there is a place for it to pool in front of them..

I don't think just putting a foam unit there will fix it. 3D printing a guard for a foam unit is probably the proper fix..

I have ridden 40 miles (round trip) in the hard pouring rain with a modded air box, zero discernible probs. I wonder if it is being funneled into an area where it is getting in there by your legs as you ride?

I have never looked in my airbox after riding but never noticed any bogging or power loss or anything else that would lead me to believe water was a prob for me.

Think I figured it out. I rode home from work while ground wet again and Inspected box. Dry everywhere except bottom back where the rear wheel Back tire was kicking up water to bottom of air box. There’s a second lid on the box and I could see the water coming in from rear tire. So i removed air box and siliconed it up. Should be good now, I got another wet ride to work again so we’ll see.

Glad you figured it out. I never had any problems with water getting in the air box. Even now with an oiled foam pod filter I've had no issues with water. About a month ago I drove a little over an hour in a pour down rain and no problems.

Was dry today so couldn’t really test it but I’m 90% sure I fixed it. But damn it was cold I need some good winter gloves now if anyone can recommend. Jerryhawk do you gotta link to pod filter you got and is it an upgrade to using the air box with a k&n filter. TIA

The one I'm using won't work on you carb. It's just a cheap no name foam filter similar to the UNI filter. I spray it with the K&N filter oil. I don't know if it is any better than the air box filter. Only reason I have a pod filter is because the intake tube on the air box was too small for my PWK30 carb.

I use this pod filter on the mikuni. It is inexpensive and works so far. Just got to adjust the crap out of the carb.

One trick I use is to put on a pair of HF nitrile gloves about 15 minutes before going out. I then put my jacket and boots on, and put my riding gloves on over the nitrile gloves. The nitrile gloves have a sort of wetsuit effect, not allowing the heat to escape easily. That allows me to have riding gloves that aren't too bulky.

I tried vinyl gloves under my motorcycle gloves on the way home yesterday. That didn’t help much, this morning I pu work gloves under my motorcycle gloves and it was a lot better. Just really bulky, tomorrow I’m gonna order me some good winter gloves

Vinyl is not the same. Nitrile gloves are cheap at HF.
