Help ! Shark fin attack !!

I noticed on my new TT250 that the shark fin was facing the wrong way (forward). I thought it was a flat piece, but it’s kind of warped. So when I turned it around it comes within 1/4” of touching the chain. That doesn’t look safe. Are they supposed to be flat ?

The one on the Hawk is flat. Just take a heat gun to it to flatten it out.

They all come backwards, or at least all the ones I've heard of. never heard of a warped one. Let CSC know. I'm sure they'll send one out asap....or try the heat gun idea.

From what I gather, it's supposed to deflect things (sticks? twigs? gremlins? fingers?) from getting sucked up into your chain and sprocket.....which having them mounted backwards must guide all foreign objects right into your chain and sprocket?
Things to ponder.

You seem to have a smaller sprocket. With my stock sprocket the fin is about 1/4” away.

I wouldn't worry about it being a 1/4" away. The sprockets not going to move side to side.

First bent one I've ever seen. Like Jerry says, I wouldn't worry. If the chain hits it, it will carve its own path, ;-)
If I were you though, I'd email CSC with this pic and have them send you another. They are very good about warranty.

I spoke to CSC and their position is that the forward facing fin is the correct way to be installed. Granted the sprocket isn’t moving but something could potentially get wedged between the fin and sprocket and knock off or break the chain.
I’ll call CSC again and have them check their parts stock for comparison.

A heat gun or blow dryer on high heat and a little force should straighten it out. I'd leave it on the bike get it nice and hot then pull untill its straight. You may need to wedge something between it and the sprocket to keep it in position like that until it cools but it will probably stay however you bend it once it's warm.

The shark find is officially called a...

Chain Block P/N: ZT28-102 $2.95

I'd try bending the one you have and worst case you buy a new one from CSC.
