Starter problems

So I’m trying to get my start button working because kick starting it is a pain in the ass. I can jump the solenoid and it starts so I don’t think that’s the problem. I checked the wiring for continuity from start button all the way to solenoid and that’s good. If I hook up multimeter to ground and the yellow with red wire and I push start button it reads 12v. The pink wire has me confused I traced that to the clutch I don’t understand why that’s there but I have continuity all the way to the solenoid from the pink wire. Help please

You can jump the solenoid and it turns over, meaning you are bypassing the internals of the solenoid and completing the circuit. Have you tested the solenoid itself? See if it gets continuity when you apply power to the coil.

Yeah I guess I need a new solenoid. I got constant 12v when I put multimeter to the positive side of solenoid but if I put it on the other side and pressstart button I get nothing. I wasn’t sure that if I Jumped it it could still be faulty only thing throwing me off is I put an old solenoid from junk 4 wheeler on it and it still didn’t work. Not sure how to test solenoid by itself for continuity. I guess I’ll just order another and hope that works.ill order another one now there only like $8 so we will see. There is no way it would need the clutch pulled in to start but the way it’s hooked up that’s what it seems. Weird that the pink wire goes to the clutch. Anyone know what the two wires coming out of clutch are for?

That is a safety switch so the bike won't start if the bikes in gear. If the bikes in gear you will have to pull the clutch to start.

I found a clutch diode in the harness under the tank that kept blowing on mine . I eliminated it for now and just unplugged the clutch lever. Can only start it in nuetral for now until I track down why it keeps blowing. My hawk was shipped with the stator wires pinched off when they put the front sprocket cover on . I repaired the wires but still have that diode blow. Just completed the circuit where the diode goes and has been running fine .

I was wondering what that was under the gas tank. I’ll check it out today and make sure that’s not my problem. Thanks

I had one that blew when I first got the bike and just replaced it. Never did figure out what made it blow in the first place.

Maybe the diode they use is under-rated.

Maybe, but it's more likely the typical quality control issues that lets one or two bad ones through from time to time. Like the fact that my clutch switch has never worked from day one, even on the new controls. I can just turn it over without the clutch in.

Does it start in gear?
The only time have to pull the clutch if it is in gear. As long as it is in neutral you can start it without pulling the clutch.

Yep. Found that out one day when I was in too much of a hurry, forgot it was in gear, and hit the start button and the bike jerked forward. That was a good wake up call. Glad I never start my bike without my rear in the seat and my hand on the brake.
