Looking for more power, Rhino 250

Just as the title states, need the advice of folks who have modified their Rhino 250 for extra HP's.

More power

KAWASAKI BRUTE FORCE 750 ($8999)
The Kawasaki Brute Force remains the biggest, most powerful ATV produced by a Japanese company. For the record, it’s made in Lincoln, Nebraska, but it’s big nonetheless. The motor is a 749cc V-twin, and it has independent suspension. The rear brake is a sealed, multi-disc unit, much like a wet clutch. The power-steering version is $1000 more, and there are other premium options available.[/IMG]

I doubt you'll get much more power out of the Rhino unless you install a bigger engine. You might get a little more by making it breath better with a pod filter, carb tuning, and less restrictive exhaust. The Rhino engine is designed to make good low RPM power and be super reliable.

I'm not trying to make LITER bike power out of a rhino but I would like to know how much of a change does a larger 30mm carb, less restrictive exhaust, proper jetting actually make out on the trails/levees. My engine is a 167fmm by the way.

Comparing a 9k quad to a $1,200 one is absurd.

Exactly as Mudflap says. The CG motor is made to run with little to no maintenance...meaning if you do maintain it, will last a very long time. Torquey they are for a small motor.

That said, I did do the upgrades and it helped.

Pod filter, Mikuni carb with proper jetting and an FMF Turbine Core 2 for the exhaust. Definitely woke it up a bit and made it more responsive but no, it will never pull your arms out of the sockets. Gearing helps too if you need to go slow and pull.

2LZ,
Wondering about the FMF exhaust, isn't that a 2 stroke muffler? Did you have to change the header pipe to mate with the new muffler?

Where did you connect the crank case hoses?
Thanks

The FMF TC2 is made for a 2 stroke but work great as small displacement 4 stroke mufflers. I've not had to do it yet on any of my TC2's but once you burn out the packing, re-wrap it with 4 stroke packing. You get a ton of miles and hours out of the 2 stroke packing.
The TC2 comes with a mid pipe and it slid right over the stock header pipe. You'll find the stock muffler and header pipe are not welded, just a slip-on. I did have to make a small bracket for the muffler mount. Nothing fancy. The TC2 sits a bit lower.

I vented the crank to the ground, like all my other older dirt bikes came from the factory. If you'd like, run a small filter on the end...like a fuel filter or something like this.

BTW, the stock air filter on these are absolute garbage. You're doing your Rhino no favors leaving the stock one on. It's non-serviceable, you can't access it without breaking the plastic canister, is a thin sheet of foam and best of all, sucks from the bottom so it will take a big drink while fording a deep creek. Pretty awesome design.

With the carb upgrade and air filter you will notice more power VS the stock setup. My stock carb was really restrictive and lean. Would say the upgrade gave me at least a 1/3 more power if not a little more.

You can upgrade and tune the existing carb if you can get the brass plugs out and notch the screws on the float cover. Mudflap can guide you with that.

Man.... So many bikes, so old a mind.
I see in my own pic that it comes with some kind of valve on the crank breather. Wonder if it of the PCV variety? Again though, I just twisted it around and vented it down.

I installed a pz30 today and the bike is running rich, like smelly rich at idle. Rev's also hang for a few seconds.

Can anyone provide tuning help?

What jetting is it running?
Rich idle, I'd close down the idle mixture. How many turns out is it set? That's the screw next to the float bowl that points straight up.

Not sure the jet it's running, bought the carb on ebay for $16.

Bike does idle and start easy, runs stronger than before and !

I have the mix screw all the way in, not tight but "seated", I'm going to try and back it out 2 or 3 turns perhaps lean it out a bit... Does this mix screw control only the idle or throughout the levels?

If it helps, I have a PZ30 on my Lifan 200. Jets are:

Idle #40
Main #108
Needle clip in the middle slot.

Try it at 1.5 turns and move from there. I've always found it helps the transition off idle as well.
