Valve Train Noise

Hey guys. My brother and I both bought RX3s last summer. Quick question. I have adjusted valves again. His I did .06 and mine i did at .08 as recommended by Gerry. I thought we would test each setting to see which one works best. My valves are very noisy and tappy compared to his valves which you can just barley hear tapping away. I guess I am just concerned that the .08 is just way to loose. It may also just be that his engine is much quieter then mine. Any thoughts.

I set my valve clearance to 0.08 mm, and I am happy with the results. The valve clearance will close as the valves wear, and I like having the extra margin of safety. Slappy valves are happy valves.

.08 mm= .0031 inch
.06 mm= .0023 inch

As long as you don't exceed the .08 mm you won't risk impact damage to the valve components. Personally I shoot for an easy .06 to a snug .07.

To be more specific, I aim for a snug 0.08 clearance, but will settle for a slight drag on the feeler gauge. If I get a 0.07 mm clearance, I will accept it. However, I won't accept a valve clearance larger than 0.08 mm.

I used to hate the slappy valves thinking it sounded like the bike was going to fall apart. Then I bought a Guzzi which sounds like all kinds of things may be loose inside at idle.
