Hawk top speed?

So, I managed to get my bike insured, as well as took it for a trip to the local town. However, I would like to know what the actual top speed is because my speedometer has to have a tremendous amount of error percentage, due to the fact that it displays 50mp/h but the bike was fine when keeping up in a 60 mph area?

The only speed modification i installed is to be the 17T front sprocket, all the other modifications are for decoration or so on.

Can somebody please tell me on how much the hawk actually speeds up to when hitting the 50 mp/h mark?

Hmmm, my speedo is optimistically high. At 60mph indicated I'm actually doing 52 according to GPS. My top speed stock with a 17T countershaft sprocket was a bit over 61mphon GPS.

My stock Hawk indicates 55ish wide open in 5th on a flat with 128 miles on the odometer.
I weigh probably 200lbs in my gear.

I'm not certain the speed indicated is accurate but I also can't say the stock knobbies inspire confidence at full throttle.

Will be throwing a properly jetted mikuni, and the 17/45 gears on my other hawk probably next week and then some kenda or vee rubber 80/20 dual sport tires to see how much the road manners improve.

Gotta say though I love the 21 inch font tire. There are some gnarly potholes on the streets around here and I track right over em.

Would like to see what the top speed is for one of these with only both sprockets changed to 17/45 or 17/44 (before a carb swap). What model Honda countersprockets do these Hawks take?

Your wish is my command. I put a 45T on the rear and will take her for a spin mañana. Sorry I haven't cross referenced the countershaft but it looks identical to my CRF's.

Can't wait! Since I will probably use one for commuting, like my TMEC, I don't really need to worry about the carb, unless there is something really wrong with it...

Stock with only 50 miles I had mine about 55 and there wasn't much left. With it being
new I was not going to push it either.

My speedo seems to be ok in MPH but the odometer seems to be in KPH. Anybody else have this?

Would you guys recommend to switch my rear sprocket as well? Also, I was thinking on ordering smaller rims in order to fit some fully street threaded street tires (Supermoto style).

odo is in kilometer (NOT km per hour...)
Standard config of "cheaper" Chinese bike (US/UK) : Speedo in Mph (Different "face" ONLY ie. SAME mechanism as metric model. Almost NO extra cost

) / Odo still in metric (Cost serouis $$$ if in miles)

Mine is stock except for a 17T front. 50T remains on the rear. I put the front sprocket in mainly to stretch the low end a bit since I was getting caught between 1st/2nd a bunch doing off-road around here and I wanted to reduce the amount of shifting I was having to do. It worked great - 1st gives me a better range now.

The effect on the top end wasn't much extra speed, maybe a couple of mph, but it lowered the rpms when I top out. So I can run flat out now without feeling like I'm pushing the red line as it did with the 15T in there. The extra rpms just don't seem to be achievable now in 5th. It'll max out around 56-58mph for me, maybe hit 60mph on a downhill grade, from what little high speed stuff I've done.

If I ever swap the tires for a more standard dual sport tread, I'll probably put a 46T on the rear to make it more road balanced.

Also, we've had a little heat wave down here, getting above 80F, and my stock carb is starting to crap out at full throttle, so if you're really looking to use this on the road a lot, I think those recommended changes are required.

Also, my odometer has to be divided by 1.42 for mileage. It's from a combination of km and differences in the front tire diameter I'm guessing.

As far as indicated speed, mine is not linear. I have about a 10% error at 30mph (reads higher than actual) but indicated/actual close back together with each other around 50mph. Go figure.

Sounds like there's a bit of variation on these guys depending on what box the odometer came out of that day at the factory. It's probably a good thing to GPS calibrate any individual one.

The result with stock carb and 17T/45T gearing. This is a level run with no wind and a 230 lb rider with saddlebags .
