Humanbeing - CDI Help?

I figured you were the most appropriate person to ask, but anybody else who might have the answer is welcome to chime in.

I have (what I believe to be) a DC CDI on my Lifan, as pictured below. I have a spare CDI as well, and it works just as it should.

I have two other CDI's that look identical, but neither one will respond to my kill switch or key switch; I have to pull the spark plug boot or stall the engine to kill it. Any ideas? My guess is that they have a different pinout that I'm not familiar with. With either of these CDI's in, you can just kickstart the engine and ride away. Not good.

The CDI that works properly is pictured below.

I may have figured it out. There is one vacant terminal on the four pin connector, and I suspect that it must be grounded for these two CDI's to work. If i can find a new connector that has four wires instead of three, I might solder it in, connect two ground wires and give it a try.
