For Spud. XR650L review!

http://rideapart.com/2014/01/2014-honda-xr650l-review/

Don't see a lot of reviews on XR650L's nowadays so I thought I'd share this :-)

Thanks for posting the link to the interesting review, Doc. I agree with almost everything the reviewer stated. In particular, I think one is unwise to purchase an XR650L new, when he can easily find a great deal on a used bike. I paid $2,000 for my 2005 XR650L with 7,800 miles on the odometer.

I thin the following quote from the review is pretty funny. " It’s not fancy, it’s not going to impress anyone, but it’ll get you where you want to go with a simple, rugged capability that belies its spec sheet or prehistoric origins." The XR650L was introduced in 1993, which was a little over 20 years ago. That isn't exactly 'prehistoric.'

Considering the update cycle of a motocrosser nowadays is about 2-3 years, with updates every year, that's a LONG run :-)

On the other hand, if it ain't broke don't fix it;-)

On the third hand (?) considering the tooling costs have been amortized for about 15 years, Honda has their nerve charging that much for a new bike that is the same as a 20 year old model.

FWIW the KLR650 (nee 600) goes back to, I believe, 1983. 31 years! Very little, although some evolutionary, changes there either.

I just got done reading about the problems many adventure riders are having with computers and fuel injection systems failing on their motorcycles in the middle of nowhere. I really like the carbureted, air cooled simplicity of the good ol' XR650L!

Beauty is as beauty does, Brother Spud!

At the end of the day, the GOOD motorcycle is the one that gets you to your destination AND back home safely.
