Crying Snake!!!

I got out of work before sunset so I took the Maule up in the cold calm clear air for a local flight to enjoy life to it's fullest.

\

Sunset over the Mighty Columbia (and Yakima) River!

Cruising low over the Snake River. Beautiful river through the desert. This unspoiled section must look the same now as it did to the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

On the way to the Snake from the desert property we have been riding on lately.

Arriving back to my home airport at sunset (pics out of order).

On downwind to a dirt cropduster strip I have permission to land at. It is the faint line just past the road.

Final approach...

Short final. Time to put the camera down and land the plane!

Another gravel/dirt strip in the desert/Paluse Hills of Eastern Washington. This is close to Lower Monumental Dam on the Snake River.

The Maule on that strip.

Remarkably clear day. It has been unusually cold and clear here as well.

The old saying is true. It's clear as a bell, and cold as Hell. I can't wait for spring to arrive.

Amen gentlemen. Indeed the West is having record lows over a record large area. Thanks again Al Gore. This is good flying weather but not good for any street riding. Indeed I almost spun the Corvette (45 degree or so slip) making a routine turn at an average speed. This was driving home today. Must have been frost. We have had no moisture in as long as I can recall. If I was on a bike I'd have been on my face. Only off road for me until this cold snap is over.

Looks like temperatures down to zero for spud, up to a whopping 30° for weld, and my temperatures appear to be somewhere in between, over the course to the next week.

This represents temperatures of 15 to 20° below normal for all of us in the West

I know very well how blessed I am to have this weather; I was raised in Edmonton (haven't grown up yet).

It rarely gets much below 32F here, but it pours cold rain for weeks on end.

Your beautiful green mountains are a testimony to the rain in southern BC Brother Weld. Beautiful. The natural hillsides here are only green for a little while in Spring, otherwise always tan/brown. The farmer's wheat fields are green up until late June. That's about it for green!

It is better to ask forgiveness than permission, WA. Drive your truck and screw the rules.

Many years ago, as a medical student in NJ, there was a time I could not afford a car and used my 1980 GS1100E to commute year round. It does not get that cold in NJ, but 20's for weeks was semi-common, and it snowed plenty. When the roads were slick or and snow at all, I'd find another way to class.

Some day, I have to get up in a single engine plane. It might make flying as a passenger fun again.

BTW-55F yesterday, 19F today.

23 miles from Dundee, IL.

Not a lot of $ and you will get a little ground school, flight time, and a logbook.

Highly recommended :-)

Higly addictive!

Just for fun I looked at your weather. Lows to zero and snow. Better check out that flight school soon!

Already have the Christmas list in to the kids. So, I know what I want for Fathers Day.
