How to carry extra gas on your dirtbike!

hey dudes,

anyone thought of this yet?

I just bought a 1Litre MSR (Mountain Safety Research not MSR dirt biking company) camping fuel container, and a fire extinguisher bracket for a 3" wide fire extinguisher, they fit together great. I just need to mount it on my bike, i'm thinking on the back fender, anyone else thought of this? Where would you mount it?

I'll post a pic later when i have a minute

A dual sport rack might be the best for the camping fuel container, and I think I'd mount the fire extinguisher under the fender, opposite the muffler. Excellent idea, BTW.

Nice arrangement. 8)

My KLX has a 2.1 gallon tank. Off road I get about 65-70 MPG. I have never run out of gas but I have come close...

If I'm riding with Roger and his 6.1 gallon Kawasaki Valdez (KLR650) I carry a hose.

If we are both on bikes with small tanks we simply carry a 1 gallon plastic fuel jug on the rack or in a backpack.

Then, as soon as the bike(s) is/are down a gallon we pour in the extra so as to get the weight off the rack or back.

Not elegant but effective. :P

I like the under fender location. Just make sure that under full compression the tire doesn't contact it.

Also that latch may not hold up to a constant pounding. You may want to think about a second strap on a bungee around the bottom also.

Sorry Tombstone, I misunderstood. I'd stick with the area that is opposite the muffler, but I'd try a PVC tube instead of the fire extinguisher bracket. You can glue a screw-on cap onto the PVC.

I remembered seeing this topic elsewhere, and I found it: http://tw200forum.com/index.php?/top...-storage-tube/ This looks to be a perfect solution for the MSR bottle.

sweet thanks for looking that up for us Weld! Now i just need to find out where i can get those canisters, looks like they are for open top tractors, you attach that thing to the side of the tractor with your manual inside to keep it out of the elements.. I assume i'll have to go out to the valley to a john deer dealership or something, if anyone knows let me know.

I think this is the most solid idea for it yet, well done buddy.

It's not my idea, but you're welcome.

I know that you can buy those containers on eBay as well. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OPERATOR...item19d58b8db4
