Took the Mrs. Shopping....

...for a motorcycle helmet. We looked at some Raiders at Cabelas and Gander Mountain last weekend and she hated them. I found it odd because I have a full face Raider and I'm pretty happy with it.

Today, after pulling out of Costco, I decided to stop at Flat Squirrel Scooters www.flatsquirrelscooters.com and check out their selection. Wow. Nice stuff. The sales guy was really helpful and Mrs. Cheesy settled on a Scorpion half helmet. After paying for the helmet, while being followed by Harley the shop dog, we checked out their bikes. Mrs. Cheesy now thinks she might like a scooter for herself. She's kind of liking the 2011 CFMoto V5 they have on the floor, the Kymco Sento 50, and the Genuine Scooters Buddy International 50.

I've been trying to talk her into a scooter for the last 23 years because her daily commute is less than seven miles round trip. Today was the most headway I've ever made in convincing her. Ain't there yet, but getting close.

Of course, the most important point of that story was the name, Flat Squirrel Scooters.

Indeed, I love that name!

Good luck convincing Mrs. Cheesy to buy a scooter!

I got Mrs. Cheesy out on the CX this morning. Rode to breakfast and then bummed around the area for about an hour. Had a nice ride.

I've been wanting to visit Flat Squirrel for a while and I gotta say I was impressed. I especially liked this one,

Lots of gear, too.

That bike has been advertised in Cafe Racer magazine for awhile, and they recently did a report on it. It got very favourable reviews.

To us, it's a China bike that's priced a little high, but to the magazine guys, it's a bargain. Al I could think of was how I could stuff a CG230 in there.

Good news.

I also like the name. I wonder if it was in Texas if it would be called 'Flat Armadillo Scooters' .

I rode that Kymco 50 about 65 miles with Linda on the back on San Juan Island a few weeks ago. There is a brief review in my Ride Report.

Does Mrs. Cheesy have good coordination? Good focus and concentration? Good traffic reading judgement/ability? A basic understanding of the laws of physics?

Lacking these things I prefer my beautiful Linda ride with me....

Is someone watching her? Then, no. Picture a deer on ice. If no one is watching, agility and grace.

Focus and concentration? She can read, sew, and play video games all with the TV on in the background.

One ticket since 1975.

Top Physics Student in our high school class in 1974.

What she does lack is self confidence, which can be traced back to her First Shirt father who made it his lot in life to belittle his wife and children. I was his worst nightmare.

She'll be fine.

Linda is VERY intellegent but her focus can be poor and she is easily distracted. She has no, what I refer to, mechanical sympathy. No intrinsic connection to what makes things run. Awesome smart girl, but safer riding with me....

BTW helmet choice varies by head shape. What may be awesome for one person may be a poor fit for another. One guy may be more comfortable in a $100 than a $700 Arai. It just is what it is.

First Shirt father

I never heard this term before. What does it mean?

I'm thinking you were a Godsend to Mrs. Cheesy though.

First Sergent, 5th Army. First heard the term when I was doing civilian work at McAlister Army Ammo Depot.
