Need more help on starter gear removal

Sounds like I have found a kick start lever from a fellow member! Now I have a chance at a starter motor and the drive gears if we can remove them without to much heartache!. I have removed my starter and starter gear cover bolts before. I could not get the starter gear cover to poop off however? Whats involved in removing this cover? This is the small round left side cover held on with 3 bolts. After getting the cover off I assume the starter gears on a shaft are accessable? Do they come off with the cover or what? Thanks
