Zongshen 200GY-2: 50,000 Miles Recorded

On July 4, 2012, my Zong reached 50,000 miles on the odometer. Here are some photos from that day's ride.

I love the TW200 engine in my Zong. I especially love the wide-ratio transmission with a "grandpa" first gear. I recently geared down my Zong to a 14T/58T sprocket combination, and I am impressed how well the bike pulls me up steep, loose, technical inclines. With my 18-inch rear wheel, I believe my current sprocket combination approximates a 14T/55T sprocket combination on the TW200.

The sun was setting as I descended the mountain.

I returned to pavement before nightfall. However, I stopped to record 50,000 miles on the odometer in the dark, as I was riding home.

50,000 miles Spud that is just impressive. It's more than impressive i think. I don't know of anyone having that many miles on 200cc. I wish you many more safe miles on Zong. Are you aiming for any number in particular? That second picture is a teaser.

Thank you, Pliskin. Since I have modified my Zong to suit my preferences, I intend to keep riding it as long as possible. Currently, my Zong has never run better! However, when necessary, I can repair my Zong's engine, or I can buy a new Zongshen engine. If a good deal presents itself, I certainly wouldn't mind bolting a larger, Yamaha XT225/TT-R225/TT-R230 engine into the Zong's frame.

That is amazing.
I assume this required alot of care and maintenance along the way, but still to get that much out of a bike people widly consider a throw a way or disposable is pretty awesome.

I hope to keep learning and get mine to just last maybe 2000miles lol

I haven't done anything extraordinary to keep my Zong running, Shorty. I rebuilt the top end of my Zongshen engine at 31,500 miles. However, this is not unusual; I rebuilt the top end of my Honda XR650L engine at 29,000 miles. In all honesty, my Zongshen 200GY-2 is a well built, wonderful little motorcycle.

Change the engine oil regularly, and adjust the valve lash periodically, and your Chinese motorcycle will last many thousands of miles. They might be inexpensive, but these are not "throw away" motorcycles.

Thank you, gentlemen. I've heard the TW200 called a mule. I rather like the comparison of my Zong to a "happy little (mountain) goat." Indeed, this bike goes more places than I could have ever imagined when I first bought it. The Zong is also very inexpensive to operate, maintain, and repair.

Pretty good for a bike of any price range in my opinion...just guessing but I imagine a fair number of high end bikes need major service before that mileage...cough BMW

My Zong's engine is manufactured as well as any Yamaha engine. Indeed, the rest of my bike is also well manufactured. I'm very glad I purchased my Zongshen 200GY-2. I don't know why Zongshen decided to stop exporting these bikes to the United States.

That's remarkable mileage, a lot of Japanese bikes don't make it that far! Testament to build quality and maintenance! 8)
