The Columbia River Gorge(ous)

Linda and I took the Gold Wing for a 250 mile ride yesterday through the Kittitas Mountains to the Columbia River Gorge to Maryhill for the art museum and for some wine tasting (90% Linda on the wine tasting). :P

It was sunny and warm, although it certainly cooled down at the higher elevations in the mountains. Linda had her electic seat on for a while and a sweatshirt on under her riding jacket and she reported she was cozy. 8)

There is still a lot of snow in the mountaians, although nowhere near the road.

The Gorge is always amazing. Like I say, on a good day Washington is every bit as beautiful as California, it's just that there are fewer good days.

Everything is a tradeoff...

Sorry I don't have many pics, we mostly rolled and enjoyed the ride without a lot of stops. Plus I don't want to bore you guys with a slide show.

The vineyard at Maryhill.

Mt. Hood. I believe this is the only place in the country for year round skiing. A majestic volcano at about 14,000 feet. I've overflown it. :P Not the best picture but it was bright out, not a lot of contrast.

The amphitheater. I promised to take Linda back here to see Earth Wind and Fire. No better name for a group in the Washington Cascade Mountains. We have all three, sometimes at the same time! Our mountains blow.

Bill and Linda.

I'm happy.

Harp seals are not forgotton however. 8)

Yeah, right.

Thanks for the pics! I've heard of several good shows at the Gorge, and Son of Weldangrind and I have considered making the journey some time.

There is an excellent campground very close by, as well as the town of Goldendale (population 3,000).

Another similar place is The Gorge, in George, Washington (not making this up). That also has very big acts (like Bon Jovi) and is closer to you I think, off I-90 close to Wenachee.

Maybe that's the one I'm thinking of.

Both are good, but the one I just mentioned is a much bigger venue.

Doc is dating himself. Bon Jovi was big when I was about 8.

Bon Jovi is unfortunately big again.

Doc, the local radio station in Bellingham advertises the Gorge a lot, so I believe you're right. I suspect they're referring to the George, WA location.

Thanks for posting the ride report, Doc.

P.S. I remember when The Beatles were new.
