Speedo on Zong.
I've created this video to see if anyone could tell me what could be the problem with the speedo.

i would undo the cable, clean and lubricate with WD40, reassemble. mine was noisy and wobbly, because cable was loose at the speedo end, even though the nut looked okay.

Thank you zingshoen that could be it. That's what i did, but the noise is still there. But trip meter does turn now. I will redo it maybe i missed something.
The area i cover on Ride reports is on Mid north Coast, nsw around Forster, Laurieton and inland Gloucester and Comboyne. It's a huge area so much to see. Thanks again.

I never heard my Zong's speedometer make those noises, Pliskin. :? How did you make the video? Did you connect a drill to the speedometer cable?
I think you might have broken one of the plastic gears inside the speedometer. I believe forum member Max_Damage had to repair his Zong's speedometer after he damaged the gears inside it. If you do a search, you might discover his post on this subject. Spud

http://chinariders.net/modules.php?n...ewtopic&t=6681 Here's another thread by Max which he posted before I even joined these forums. In this thread Max describes a digital speedometer modification he made to his Zong. http://chinariders.net/modules.php?n...ewtopic&t=2972 If repairing your speedometer becomes either difficult, or expensive, you might consider installing a Trail Tech Vapor, or an Acewell computer, to replace your stock odometer. If you are unable to repair your stock speedo, I reccomend you go to a bicycle store, and pick up one of the digital speedometers, they usually go up to 199km/h / MPH.
you can then just glue a magnet to your rim, and calibrate it based on your tire/wheel size. I did this for my old honda dirt bike years ago, works great. |

The motorcycle computers are nice since they have a tachometer, odometer, trip odometer, engine temperature gauge, ambient thermometer, et cetera. Spud

This is tempting: Universal Dual Odometer Speedometer Meter Fr Motorcycle I have no idea if it would work with a China dual sport.

If the odometer cable fits the connector on the back of that unit, it should work. However, I doubt you can calibrate that speedometer, so it is probably not very accurate for either speed, or mileage.

My thoughts exactly, although it's probably set up for either an 18", 19" or 21" front wheel. My guess is 21", and it might be correct at that wheel diameter.

one more thing to try came to mind: you could remove the speedo, turn it on its head and squirt a fair few drops of lubricant into the opening for the cable. this worked for my honda, which had a rattling speedo. since that treatment it runs quietly.
