Just get the Mikuni and problem solved! Here's a link to another thread. Look around page 5(?) at Weldangrinds 12/16 post. I got my jets at jetsrus. http://chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=15117&page=5

The bolt on the bottom is one of the main clues. I also like OKO carbs and there is many knockoffs just like Mikuni VM.

I ordered mine on Amazon. Not sure if it's real or not but it says Mikuni, says it's made in Japan and also, runs great!
For what it's worth, the carb I have that gives me the most headache by far is a real Mikuni CV carb on my QLink. Plugs up from sitting faster than any of my stock China PZ carbs.

Don't be concerned about that. The carb you ordered is the very model I've likely installed on a dozen or more bikes. Once you get the jetting sorted, you'll love it.

Is the carb that come stock on the Hawks a version of the PZ30 (Keihin clone) carb?
I have a PZ30 carb on my Kinroad (stock) and dialed it in with jets readily available on fleabay (from china) and it works great on my 200. My PZ30 is the same as you can still buy on fleabay for $20... and has normal screws to remove the fuel bowl and an adjustable mixture screw. Cheers!

I stopped by my shop today and got a short tutorial on the carbs. he happened to have a dirt bike in there stripped down and the carb was a keihin. he showed me a few things about it, so I should be capable of getting this new one installed. he also suggested that given what I described aobut how the bike is running now that my float might be stuck. I'm going to beat on it with a screwdriver just for fun to see if it helps, but if nothing else, will pull it out and drill the screws. He suggested keeping it and rebuilding as a spare, which I plan to do. it's all a learning process! |

just took the bike for a spin. you can tell it's lean, but was able to push to an indicated 56 mph in top gear. sounds about right. I'm sure the new carb will help when I get it.
in the mean time, THIS arrived today! |

ok....mikuni carb jetted and installed last night. I had a difficult time getting it running. first rule to teach everyone. when cranking on the starter for long enough and it won't start, CHECK THE KILL SWITCH!
so now....finally got it running and have a few concerns. My idle adjustment screw seems to have a "sweet spot" turn it further in, revs go up. turn it further out, revs go up. huh? Second, after completely off choke, rev it up and the rpms dont immediately return to idle. seems like it hangs. perhaps throttle cable adjustment??? I don't think it's the cable itself as it was acting properly with the old carb. for reference, I've got a 115 main and 30 pilot with 1 2/3 turns on the mixture. Please help a carburation virgin!
