Where did you get the swingarm decals? Where did you find the tank and shock? What about the new seat cover?

The gas tank was from a guy in the XR forums at TT. $40! The shock was off eBay, $33 shipped. If you need a shock you can have my old one. It's a little soft, but the preload is all the way down, you can adjust that, as well as the compression and rebound, I think. Let me know. If you don't want it I'll eBay it.

Where did you buy your new seat cover?

Thanks for the offer of the shock. Ours is wasted, so yours might be better.

Here's the cover. The picture is a generic. The price was $30 OBO. I offered $20 and they took it. Nice people to work with, BTW.

New seat cover installed

Not a concours restoration but not bad. It couldn't be done smoother because the foam is not smooth. Indeed I left the old cover on and put this one on top to help it look better and maybe be stronger.

It took about 1/2 hour and a spring powered staple gun. :P

The plastic seat pan is degraded and actually broke in some places from the staples so I took it easy. :?

Tomorrow or Wednesday I'll do the rear sprocket and cush bushings and change the handgrips. While I have the real wheel off I'll paint the swingarm.

Then fork seals and repaint the frame (I really am not in the mood for that) and I'm done!

You did a beautiful job, Doc.

The Krylon Fusion paint job on the side panels and rear fender is superb! I love Krylon Fusion spray paint.

The seat looks really good; thanks for the eBay link. I'll look into buying a couple of different covers from them.

When you have the rear wheel apart for the cush bushings, etc., you might wish to consider new sealed bearings. They're cheap, and they'll eliminate wobble.

Son of Weldangrind is now convinced that his panels should be painted white with Krylon Fusion.

+1 on the Fusion. I used primer on the backsides but none on the front. The primer is not necessary, just like the directions say. I used steel wool and mineral spirits to prepare the material. We will see how well it holds up, but touchups will be easy. I am VERY satisfied with the company I bought the cover from.

I have the new sprocket mounted. I'll be sending back the bushings, the old ones looked fine after all. I painted the swingarm. When it's back together I'll share some pics. Just will have to wait for the new swingarm decals to make it look complete.

I have the fork seals. It remains to be seen if I'll have the ambition to install them tonight or not. :?

The swingarm has been painted and the new sprocket installed.

This went well.

Then I got over ambitious and decided to do the fork seals. I did the right leg 1st and the seal looked good, which is good because the seals Bike Bandit sent me are incorrect. I changed the ATF and put it back together.

The left leg was leaking a little. I did the old masking tape trick and serviced it also with fresh ATF. I'll order new seals to do in the future but this should take care of it hopefully for a while.

New chain should be here soon. I did the handgrips last night so except for painting the frame, should I choose to, I think I may be done? Could it be? :roll:

Come to think of it, looking at that last pic, the Old Dirt Rat ain't looking bad!
