hi yall looking for oil coolers

I am always on a budget and am looking for a cheap oil cooler to strap on the bike.

I know there has been a few people on here that have done this. can any of you give me an idea of what it will cost and where exactly you run the lines?

I am unaware of ANYONE here that has done that. You'd need to somehow tap into the oil gallery in the crankcase on the pressure side of the oil pump. Not sure how you'd do that without a complete teardown. FYI, I did a lot of oil tests last Summer, and these bikes don't really need an oil cooler. On a hot, humid Summer day I was only getting oil temps of 160 - 170, which surprised me. That's no where near dangerous, especially in an air/oil cooled engine. Unless you have an extreme case, I'd not lose any sleep over putting one on the bike.

shhhh dont tell anybody... it is actually for the klx 650.


I do remember someone in the dual sport section mentioning installing them on all his bikes but am not finding who exactly posted it when I search:oops:

BTW I read about it being the KLX and you know if you get advice for the KLX 650 here then you have to load it up and take to each person that helps you and allow them one week of ride time I'm first

If you ever find yourself up here in centeral kansas you are more than welcome to a joy ride as long as your feet touch the ground, and you can start it without causing injury to yourself, "kick only"

Sir no problem On that I will remember that some day as for kicking it over hell cant be harder then the old HD 1200 with 11:1 that thing was a bear starter went out never did replace it.

No as for the oil cooler just talked to a friend has one on His KLX says he got it from the dealer... I asked him if it would be possiable to take a few pic and send them over tonight.

Personal I have never seen his bike but he always talking about it

Oil Cooler: = 1 quart Penzoil mixed with 1 pint apple juice . . . :wink:

A word of caution, I have done such as what you are contemplating, and be sure that the heaviest part of your assembly is mounted solid enough to not cause any danger of flexing and breaking/leaking of tubing/fittings.

Use a rifle/shotgun wire brush of proper size with alcohol to be sure female threads are clean and free of oil/grease, and allow your loctite time to set up good before putting pressure on the fittings.
