Yup...Remove the seat, remove the battery, remove the battery cradle (four bolts or screws). There is a long stem bolt with a wing nut in the middle of the filter. That's it.

For those following this thread, I've ordered a different aftermarket RMZ250 filter to see how it fits. Will update when it arrives.

UPDATE!

Got the second filter today. This one was also purchased off of Ebay and is made by LOPAR. Part number is 153215 for Suzuki RMZ450/250/RM125/250. It has the same general shape/height of the oem Templar X air filter that came in my bike. The only difference I see is:
On the oem filter, the locating pin hole is on the lower sloped side of the filter. On the LOPAR filter, it is located on the high side of the slope. Does this make a difference? Doesn't appear to as there is sufficient room in the airbox housing.

I purchased this filter from LOPAR-PARTS on Ebay. Total cost at the time of purchase (including shipping) was $8.84

Gee, that's a low cost replacement filter.
Does it seal up well around the base?
What do you think about the quality?

Always good to have spares on hand. Just checking to see if you know that foam air filters you buy a foam air filter service kit. One part is cleaner to remove the oil and dirt from a foam filter, the other part of the kit is new oil to re-oil the foam filter on the bike and then re-install it and keep riding until the next service date for the filter.

Good point Pete! I failed to mention this filter will need to be oiled before use. Nice thing about this brand is the package it comes in is resealable, so you can service your air filter and store it in the same bag. Also need to mention that this filter AND the stock filter need a little grease around the base to seal out any dirt that might bypass the filter where it mounts to the airbox (there was NO grease on my stock filter when I removed it!

Thumper, quality seems okay. I feel better about using this filter vs the stock one. Will also be easier to tell at a glance how dirty the filter is.

There's also a filter made by Nibbi that might work in our bikes. Cost was roughly three times this one so I didn't want to take a chance but for those interested it is listed on Ebay.
