its a done deal!

Well my fat but chose the templar X and I put her on layaway from PowerSportsMax (great folks from what I can tell...awesome young lady in sales). I chose orange or red. I have plenty of time to pay her off before riding season and I am psyched..thanks guys for all the input. Now I just need to find a link to a 42 tooth sprocket that will fit.

Thanks so much, guys!!!! seriously. 15 years ago this site helped me make a choice and do what I needed to do and once again it comes through.

back in the day, it was Bruce from endless journeys, katoranger and someone called pumpkin that helped me choose my bike. Hope they are all still well.

Sprockets are consumables on bikes so don't think about being stuck with one.

I got 40 tooth for my own reasons, but you can see the pattern in the part description on Amazon. Just switch the numbers in the part# and description with the number of teeth you want:

JT Sprockets JTR210.40 40T Steel Rear Sprocket , black

Edit: While you are at it, you might want a new chain and a chain breaker tool and some master links if you don't have them.

I had a 46 tooth, a 42 tooth, and a 50 tooth for my GY-5..42 teeth ended up being my favorite.

This is what JT offers for this application. If you want to preserve more low speed controllability off road, consider 44. Frankly, I don't like taking my 6 speed Temp X on the highway, and I have a 39 tooth sprocket on that one. Plenty of power to push over 70mph. But for me it has nothing to do with the gearing. It's the traffic and high speed pressure from goofy drivers. I prefer two lane roads. I may just sell the 6 speed. I am more off road oriented, and will just take a car on the highway

BTW- I kept the 49T rear sprocket and original chain on the 5 speed. You can keep it stock for a while during first few engine hours and get the feel of it off road. That low gearing is nice for slow speed negotiation, and easy front tire lift on bumps. Wheelie fun

The 42 tooth on the KPX is a good all round gear ratio. If you were strictly street riding the 39 would be the best fit. For more off road the 44 tooth would be the way to go.

I hear you. I dont care about top speed what I care about is lower rpms at cruising speed. Truth is, I will probably never go off the road on it, but its so much tougher that I figure its a better fit for a fat dude. If you get something this robust and then you just baby it on the street or occasional backroad, it should last for a very long time...and that is my idea. Also, worst case ontario (hehe tpb) I can sell it and buy an even better gaming PC than the one I just sold...(gaming computer depreciate super fast..get one enjoy it and then unload it before you lose your azz). Anyway thanks guys.

also..i have zero desire to drive a 300lb bike at 70 mpH!...Just lower rpms at cruising is that i want.

I want to be able to occasionally explore dirt roads in my state (like jeep trails) but I wont be doing real offroading. I am old and fat. I just want to explore on the cheap. I need to balance between enough gumption to get my fat but moving and enough top end that I dont wind her out at 50. Eh well, I will figure it out with the help of this forum. Man..too many beers and my grammar goes to shite.

what about the Templar X? you know your stuff what sprocket should a 265 lb man that is going to do 95% street riding need? If I could just hit 65 if necessary at times then everything below that would pretty much be golden i think. Heck i dunno. Gotta read read read.

Oh yeah, i forgot about your weight. 42-44 tooth might be better for you.

Good choice! I have the stock 13T on the front mated to a 42T Rear that i bought on Amazon and its geared low enough for offroad and maxes out around 70mph corrected. I wouldn't advise going less than a 42T in the rear based on your weight. (im 180lbs for reference)

Prepare to be surprised. The frame and engine, components, and overall quality are worth more than you are paying. No kidding. This bike is worth $3200, or more. The only problem is that it is an enduro. Tall, big, off road ready, but street legal. That is what you are getting. It will shock you once you realize what you've got "for the price". Confidence inspiring bike. Really. See a path off road... go for it. This bike will take care of you!!!

Congratulations on getting another bike. It's all miles and smiles once you get it.
