Rejet only. It came with a smoothbore as described in this thread for jetting info (Video and Pics section), so I wasn't about to buy a new carb!! Look about 13-14 pics down into this thread:

I think these settings (125/45) are working (with minor needle shim).

New carb isn’t really worth doing.

Thumper, congrats on the bike. I’m still on the fence but mama ain’t digging a bike purchase every quarter. Between mama mentioning sanctions and the amount of work and mods done on my base, it’ll have to wait until at least October.

I’m still really enjoying the base model light weight. Seems the X has five extra inches of wheelbase and seven inches more length.

On the exhaust, I used this https://www.orionpowersports.com/sta...-249cc-engine/

It doesn’t fit the base model and it requires some cutting and welding. I think it would fit the longer X model better but the stock muffler is narrow, the clutch linkage is close and so is the rear shock (it must be a hassle removing the carb with the adjustable rear shock). The benefits are a larger header pipe diameter and no cat.

It would be easier to modify the existing pipe, some gents on here cut a rectangular opening on the cat bulb, scrape out innards and weld it back. That’s probably the better way to go.

The new 6speed has a larger muffler and the right rear plastic appears to kick out for additional clearance. And a larger fuel tank, and alloy rims, and a case guard, and a rear rack. I’m hoping Thumper will post pics of the new model when it lands. A few pics of the new hardware and reports of the 6th click and RPM drop should be enough to push me over the fence.

Okie, that looks like a INT650, congrats. I looked at a RE Himalayan before finding the Templar. Here’s my day tripper

Thumper, I don’t know if I’m going to be able to take the two weeks for pics…

In the meantime, I’ll sacrifice a bit more grey matter.

Very interested in the 6 speed. Looking forward to some real data on the actual gearing ratios and vibration difference. Keep us posted!

Thanks

If my brother buys the new 6sp X, I’m going to be jelly, sent him the link this morning. When he’s up my way visiting, I never see him, his always out on my Templar…
You might try one for a 2007 Suzuki RMX250 since the plastic is a copy of that, maybe the airbox is too....worth a shot

Exclamation Info on availability of the 6sp (ZS172FMM-5)

I got this back from maxpro-llc on the 6sp Zongshen engine:

"The ZS172FMM-5 (6 speed engine) will come, but do not have ETA right now, when it will arrived at our warehouse, we will email you, or you can follow our eBay store, thanks".

BUT, in the same email, he said that the tech guy was telling him the -3A an -5 are not identical (mounts). He doesn't know if the -5 can be adapted into the older frame I got a couple of months ago with the -3A.

I will have both bikes side by side within a couple of weeks and will be able to look more closely at it. If the upper connection and at least one of the others hold it so the front sprocket is lined up, it should be possible to make linker plates to get the other mounts secured.

If they aren’t interchangeable I may just wait to see if a 300 comes later.
