Tao Tao four wheeler

Yesterday my son was riding his four wheeler, everything was fine. He went to ride again later in the day and the four wheeler kept dying when he put it in gear. I check the throttle, the idle. everything was fine. The four wheeler starts rite up and idles, and Revs up. I am lost. This has me stumped. Any advice would be great. Thank you .

Will it keep running with the rear wheels off the ground when you put it in gear?
