I did a few mods and Now I have redone them.

I decided to give the 40 tooth rear a try. Then while it was on the lift, I thought hey I wonder if that uni filter will fit.And it did. Then a buddy showed up and said hey while you that close lets rejet. So I dug up a 105 main jet and put that in. Also I confirmed for myself that there is a gel pac in the carbs when new, That stuff is gooey. The conclusion is I can run 65mph (confirmed) at 6100rpm. The long awaited answer is connected to the playing card in the spokes sound. I finally found my noise. It WAS the stock airbox. where the rubber was "glued?" to the back of it . It was flexing in and out making the poping sound every time it hit the rubber hose going to the carb.

Expecting my UNI filter, 108 jet, and new chain and sprocket next week.

will be going 17/42 this time.

The UNI filter, CRF150R exhaust, and the 108 main jet should give me a nice boost to pull the smaller sprocket.

I thought the 40 would be too much but it worked out well.

The 42 should bring the rpms down alittle more than the 45 did.

2.65/1 with the 45
2.47/1 with the 42
2.35/1 with the 40

I changed the rear sproket from a 46 to a 40 yesterday. I didnt like it.Today I changed it back to a 43. I like it much more. Ithink 42 or 43 is a good number for the rear.

I have had the 45 for 6000 miles. It is really too tall for any serious offroad action, but good on the street. I think the 42 will give me just alittle better top end. I haven't been off-road in months so not too concerned about that.

On my Viva the chain bears down pretty hard (since changing to the 39 tooth rear)on the rubber swingarm pad. Has dug some deep groves into it, so i took it off and now the chain drags on the swingarm itsef. Seems the only solution is to lower the rear of the bike to get the chain off the arm.

Loosening the chain doesn't seem to help either, cause of the angle of the swingarm.

I'd look at that pad and make sure it's not adding drag to your chain with the small sprockets.

It is better and easier to glide a chain over the swingarm slider, than to drag the chain over the swingarm itself...The chain will "saw" your swingarm steel worse than poly, and not great for chain...as it heats/ wears and magnetizes your chain and sprockets.
