Holes in steering stem

Noticed 2 holes in the steering stem, dose anyone have then in theirs?

Yes, That's where a Vin plate should be installed but the Hawk is for offroad use only so none was used. I installed a grease zerk in mine and pumped it full of grease. Guaranteed it will have grease on the bearings and will not rust.

That's what I'm going to do but have to take the forks and steering stem apart to drill a bigger hole for the zerk to fit.

I just hit it with an appropriate sized tap coated in grease to catch the metal bits.

How did that work for you? did the grease catch all of the metal chips? That would save a lot of time from tearing it all apart.

Seems to have been just fine. I went very slow... Backed off and removed any bigger pieces of metal, went back at it. Applied a small dab of new grease as needed.

Doesn't take long to tap through, the holes are basically the right size, just untapped.
