What is it with the carburators?
With all the research I've been doing, I see time and time again issues related to the carbs that come on these 229cc bikes, replace & rejet or hack & rejet.
Is there a known reason why the stock carb is so bad? What's the deal with the anti-tamper screws? tnx! g. |

So "air pollution laws" cover both "poorly jetted" and "tamper proof"?

If you want to hack the carb you can.
If you take your time removing the bowl screws and the plug covering the idle mixture screw you will have a carb that fits like it was made for the bike. Around 20$ on eBay buys a drill set for the jets and a carb kit. There is nothing wrong with the oem carb. |

It's only 30.00 to replace the whole thing with the faux-Mikuni VM26 and jetting for your mods and elevation is readily available for cheap. I've put these on all my Hondoids. https://www.amazon.com/FI-parts-Miku...%2C296&sr=8-13

Makes perfect sense. The "f*** you" screws in the carb are kind of childish though.
I'm just trying to wrap my head around what appears to be a pretty vast ecosystem. I'm currently in the process of trying to nail down a "best practices" list for the TBR7. The more prepared I am when it arrives, the better off I'll be. Thanks! g. |

There's a couple of lists, but they're spread over multiple pages.

I am very happy with the mods to my 2020 Tbr7. Here's my list; 17 tooth front sprocket, RK non boring heavy duty chain 130 link, stock carb with stock pilot jet, 110 main, 2 turns out on the air screw, NGK plug, Aniro exhaust system, 3/4" front fork spacers and Lucas 15w fork oil. I'm at 965' above sea level and weigh 190lbs. Hope this helps you.

"non boring"?
Thanks for the tips! Most of that is already on my list - I will probably not change out the sprockets as I would prefer it derated for now. g. |

I believe that's probably "non o-ring".

Just to give you an idea, the same engines with the same carb you get with the Hawk 250, Tao Tao, TT250 are sold here and the carbs are jetted correctly and you can mess with them, they don't have any kind of tamper protection.
