Head Scratching Hawk 250 Front Sprocket Question

I've been really enjoying my Hawk 250 for the past 2 years. I ride mostly on the back roads around my house.

I recently bought a JTF259-17 front sprocket to reduce the RPM at higher speeds. The sprocket fits well, but I ran into a problem putting the washer thingee from the original sprocket onto the new one. The washer thingee from the original sprocket fits the new sprocket, except the indentations don't line up when the bolt holes are lined up. I've attached pictures that show the washer thingee, and the sprocket.

My questions are
1. What is the actual name for the washer thingee?
2. Is the washer thingee necessary with the new sprocket?
3. I've searched for a washer thingee for the JTF259 sprocket, but I haven't been able to find it. Do you know someplace where I can find one?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Richard

The indentations are not suppose to line up. That washer thingee is what locks the sprocket in place so it doesn't come off the shaft. There is a groove in the shaft. Line the sprocket keeper up with that groove then rotate it to line up the bolt holes.

The official Honda jargon for that part is known as a Sprocket Fixing Plate. Generally they can last a while, but Honda always recommended replacing it with a new one if the sprockets and chain were ever being replaced due wear, or at a minimum inspecting to make sure the part in question did not show severe signs of wear on the teeth in particular.

Thanks for the information.

Another question - did your JTF259 sprocket come with a new retainer ring and bolts? Mine didn't, so I tried using the bolts and retainer ring that came with the Hawk. The bolts go into the new sprocket for about 1 turn, but then stop as if the thread sizes are different. Are the thread sizes different for the JTF259 and the Hawk's original front sprocket?

Thanks again!

Mine didn't come with the retainer or bolts but the stock bolts fit with no issues.
