Hawk bogs down at high range

So I got caught in a rainstorm on the way home the other day on the Hawk. The closer I got to home it seems like the bike was bogging down and backfiring a good bit. Tried to drain the carb and check the air box and pod filter and make sure that I got all the water out of the bike. I took it for a ride today and it still seems to be having issues. At the higher range of every gear the bike bogs down, particularly right around 5500 rpm’s. There’s a lot of backfiring on deceleration two. Any other recommendations on how to get back to normal?

Is it possible you may have gotten a little water in your fuel? If the fuel tank cap wasn't sealing properly this may be a possibility.

Other things to check would be the connectors on the electrical system. There may be water that worked its way into them and is messing with the connection for the ignition system. This is why many of us pack dielectric grease into the connections.

Could be coincidence but may be time to check the valves. Check to make sure you are not running half choke.

Sounds like an ignition issue to me. Water could be in one or more of the connectors between the crank case and the spark plug...ARH

I drained the tank completely and flushed it a couple time with about 1/8 tank of gas and we are running better than ever. My gas cap seems to fit as it should, but I may look at rubber or foam gaskets to fit between the cap and the tank going forward. Thank you guys!
