New Exhaust

I have a Lifan that has an exaust that does not have the USFS spark arrestor stamping on it. I plan on riding in Ohio, Pennsylvania and other states on Forestry land. I am sure that without the marking and I get checked... it won't pass and I won't be able to ride and maybe get fined.

I don't want to put a $400 exhaust on this bike so I am looking for a replacement that won't break my piggy bank. I want one that is quiet and not a performance type that is louder.

Can anyone point me in a direction to look for an "approved" aftermarket exhaust that will fit this bike? It a Lifan GY20-5 from American Lifan. Any help would be appreciated.

My DB150 dirt only bike has a screen type spark arrester on it, but it's not stamped USFS -- and I'm guessing that's the case with your exhaust as well.

The best thing might be to buy one of those Sparky's from the other thread or might be able to fashion one of the Pro Moto endo's on there:http://www.promotobillet.com/shop/category.asp?catid=26

because I don't think they'd accept just stamping USFS on the exhaust.

Hey Guys...
No they wont accept that. it needs to be spelled out US Forest Spark Arrester Approved, or US Forest Service Spark Arrester Approved. I have seen it both ways.

I put the Sparky add on, on my Jetmoto. It is stamped US Forest Service Approved. I needed something to be able to ride the mountain trails near my house in Auberry. I cut the clamp end flair off of it and used three self drilling sheet metal screws to mount it. I didn't trust the worm clamp with the vibration from the bike and the trails. I'm happy with the Sparky and the installation and it didn't break the bank. You can see it in the pictures in the gallery. I did the same thing to the Jetmoto Kart that I had.

It's a quick and easy solution to the problem of these bikes not having a spark arrestor.

I think they do have a spark arrester, just not one stamped USFS Approved.... probably because they didn't pay the money to have them approved.

I also agree the Sparky would be a cheap way to make sure you're legal.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I thought the way the law was written, the vehicle has to have a muffler OR a spark arrestor. I see very few 4X4's with USFS approved running around out here in Cali.

yea, i would have to agree, i've taken my jeep off roading in PA many times, and never had anyone say anything about my exhaust, or lack thereof.

Chop it off! Loud pipes save lives

ps. does anyone have the exact diameter of the exhaust tube before the muffler? I have been looking to get some random stock mufflers or used pipes off ebay to see what will be close to fitting and what wont...
