Genuine G400

Saw the Genuine in person today. Seemed high enough quality, but was a little annoyed the sales guy tried to tell me originally the price was 'around $6500' and when he handed me a Genuine brochure with all their bikes, and the G400 stated $4599, he said the bike comes out to 'over $6000' after taxes and fees! Guess they aren't interested in moving them...

I am quite sure of that! Oh, also, just to double check, I looked at the mfg.'s plate and this is a Shineray product, and made in China, unlike the FI/Liquid-cooled 300 SYM Wolf next to it which was made in Taiwan.

Taiwan made stuff is a better product and more expensive for obvious reasons.
Even in mainland China they admit Taiwan made is a better quality but it costs more.

I agree with this. I travel to Taiwan to visit factories 3-4 times a year. Generally, Taiwan and Chinese manufacturing are two totally different ballparks. Of course there are always exceptions, but I don’t think so in this case. SYM stuff is very high quality from my experience, they’re JIS certified and were OEM manufacturers for Honda for a long time.

The SYM Wolf 300 is a really nice bike! As is the Wolf 150. Genuine scooters, except for the Stella, are made by PGO, another good Tawiwanese manufacturer. It’s disapointing to see Genuine go with Shineray for their new bikes.

That price is outrageous in my opinion. I heard, on good authority, that Genuine has been forcing their dealers to buy the G400’s and that some dealers have been pushing back. So, it doesn’t surprise me to hear that they were not enthusiastic to sell them.

The SYM 300 is such a nice bike, I’d be really surprised if the G400 is even close to comparable.

Wow! 6 grand???
I can pick up a new 2017 Honda Rebel 500 for $5450 or a New 2017 Honda CBR500R for $4950 +TTL. Both water cooled and probably more HP. Year model doesn't matter to me because there have been no changes to the 2018 and 2019 models.

The sales guy claimed they sold 3...this was a downtown L.A. store, where everything is more expensive, but when MSRP is involved, cannot see how the price is $6000 on a $4600 bike?

Is that a twin or a large bore single with a dual port head?

From the article I reference above,

"Twin exhaust headers make one wonder if this is a twin-cylinder or a single-cylinder engine. It’s a single, but with two exhaust valves Honda opted to run a header for each. "

It's a Thumper with dual exhaust ports.

Price much excessive for a motorcycle without additions. I have a witch fuel inection, smokes 0.83 gal per 100 kilometers along the route going 80-90km / h, to 0.97 gal / 100km driving 110-120 km / h. It turns elegantly, weighs 150kg with fuel. It's on Batlax BT45F and R tires
Your one is the same as mine (mine is with injection, I saw an identical one last year in Beijing (China)
Here is.. ( its my)
A bit too light for me. I can sell it because I want to buy Motoguzzi V7 III. I sell for 4780 $ on FOB delivery terms.

Almost anything close to that displacement makes more power. Its only rated at 26hp, and I have a feeling that rating is a bit optimistic due to two different reviews that stated the bike struggled to even reach 80mph. Yes it could be down to the rider, but I suspect that isn't the only reason. Essentially that Vitacci GTO you posted about makes the same power from 80 fewer ccs for $2000 cheaper.

A Rebel 500? A Band New rebel 300 makes more power and retails for the same MSRP.

Give it a few more months and you could probably pick one up brand new for 3500, which is what their actual retail price SHOULD be. Genuine is price gouging these bikes because they really have no competition besides the Yamaha SR400, which I would honestly rather own for several reasons - lighter, more power, a transmission that isn't known to kill itself, resale value, and aftermarket support... to name a few.

Most of the dealers in my area that have one or two of these bikes can't sell them. One of them already dropped the price to $3900 to try and shift it out the door, and that was 4 months ago.
