This is why you do pre ride inspections

I had the day off and it is going to be 60 here today. Was going thru a pre ride inspection and noticed a loose nut on the swingarm bolt. I tightened the nut a few turns and the bolt started turning. Look at the other end of the bolt and the head had sheared off. The nut was not loose the bolt was working its way out.

Any idea on the bolt size? I would like to get a grade 8 or hardened bolt to replace it. I do not know how much of the bolt went with the head.

It's a 14mm diameter bolt. Not sure of the exact length. I think it's around 275mm long. Just measure the overall width of the swing arm assembly.

Man you are lucky that you did the per-inspection and caught it... that really could have turned out to be a very bad situation for you... All I got to say is you have an angel in your corner...

And far as the bolt, make sure you take the nut with you so you can make sure it screws on... it really wouldn't hurt to buy a new nut... if the head of the bolt was sheared off flush with the swing arm.. chances are you can compare the bolts together for size less of the head on the new one...

Another, and IMHO a better option than simply a bolt is an actual shaft assembly with a nut and washer on each side. The TT250 comes with such a thing, and does work on the Hawk. Parts 4, 6, and 7. https://store.cscmotorcycles.com/TT2...RBER-s/353.htm

This design takes all torsional preloading off of the bolt and instead allows it to act as a stud. This makes it less prone to fatigue and failure due to axial loads.
