If you are going to put something resembling a skid plate on the bike, why not make it more than just looks?

The TT250 skid plate bolts right to a Hawk. It's a bit more than $50 at $129, but offers function and looks.

Even the cheapest universal style skid plates I could find were $70.

Now, if you have access to a welder you could probably fab something up cheap out of mild steel. Or even some impact resistant plastic sheeting and a heat gun.

you need to look at what you are going to be doing with the bike...
if you just want to stop the stones that flick up from the front wheel
then as megadan said some type of thick plastic will work ...

If you intend to use it as a landing pad... over logs/rocks etc
then 5 or 6mm alloy is the best choice... i have dented the 6mm
alloy one on my enduro bike ...
but being a hawk I sure a thick plastic one will be more than capable...

I have seen plastic cutting boads with the front bent up hanging under bikes..

I built my 1st one out of some 1/8" Steel plate. Aluminum would be easier to make. Details here. http://chinariders.net/showpost.php?...3&postcount=80 and that evolved into a whole other project. http://chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=20131&page=7

ok it looks like i got a picture of the cycra skid plate on the hawk ,looks like one just needs to fab a bracket like seen in the pic ,waiting for more pics from hawk 250,but i think i am going to get one of the 2 posted on his site at a savings of $50.00 + the cost of the powder coat to the tt 250 version,i am going to look for red one ,prices around $75.00

I made mine from an aluminum plate off an old Boca ticket printer.

The skid plate CSC sells for the TT250 is reasonably priced, aluminum and nearly bullet proof. It should fit the Halk if your looking to buy instead of building one.

nothing is bullet proof on the wrong log rock or wreck, these are designed that if you hit a rock or worse the aluminum skid plate would just help the impact to your engine be worse ,with the plastic one at less then half for the blue one $70.00 ,again all my dual purpose bikes had a plastic skid plate or belly pan ,so if they get hit they can be replaced without twisting around the engine ,that or the corner makeing hole in an engine wich would be rare but could happen, the plastic wont couse,in this case we are just modifying the pictured ones above to fit on the hawk an they do the cycra skid plates will work on the hawk ,pictures will sell a few comeing soon

this is for those who want the more dirt bike look,i know one thing even if the tt250 one was 75,00 i still got to paint it,these have style ,time will tell couse the tt250 is the only one that tech fits the hawk ,these with just small mods a few holes to drill an so on, hawk250.com has a new blog on these cycra skid plates ,just gives guys other choises .

i was going to buy the tt 250 version then thought dont wont something that could couse a hole in my engine with the right impact, still just another choise for guys an gals down the road ,so in the weeks to come when people see them on the hawk may just change some minds or not, just think if every upgrade for $1300.00 bike was 129.00 +

Also like the guys who make there home made ones good for them ,personal choise thifty not cheap,or cheap not thifty

Hawk 250 will be puting one on his bike soon then posting a video ,an i will be doing the same ,but no video, my video comes later about the bike buying one an so on the link above is what he has posted now about the skid plate blog ,for just another choise for hawk owners an the like ,couse i think there should more then one choise besides home made ,i guess with the mods one could say these are home made to fit too a point
