Will it at least shut off with ignition off? I'd be a bit leery of not having a quick way of shutting it off. You can always wire the Honda kill switch up like it's a China switch.

You're right. I could wire it up differently and have it work, but decided not to worry about it. I can reach the key quick enough if need be...

Unless the key snaps off when the bike tumbles. Just something to consider

I encourage you to calibrate the dipstick if you won't be able to see the sight glass. The dipstick will lie to you in stock form and not represent sufficient quantity. With the bike upright and level, about one litre of oil will take you to the upper line in the sight glass. You can make a reference mark on the dipstick from there.
These dipsticks have been known to come apart in the engine, so if you have a Honda dipstick that fits, it might be a better choice.

Weldangrind- I actually have a good view of the sight glass. I'm just about ready to drain the oil that was shipped with the motor and add some dyno oil- not sure which brand I'll use, but some 10-40.. or maybe straight 30 wt oil for my first start. I'm glad you mentioned to fill using the sight glass. For some reason I thought it took 2 L of oil, not 1.

Also, since humanbeing mentioned that my stator and R/R are half wave, I've been researching and thinking I might just want to modify my stator, and use a full wave R/R to convert the charging system to full wave. I guess I'll first check the voltage the current system produces while the engine is running and with full hi-beam (45W) and any other farkles and such drawing power. If the voltage is less than 13.5 at 2500-3000 RPM, I'll order a 20.00 stator and modify it to single wave- add an old Shindengen R/R and see what happens. Still hope to have enough time to work on a few loose ends and start the bike this weekend!! I'll post a few more pics and maybe a video of the first start... when it happens

Good article http://www.cqxbmp.com/company/doc-2-34316.html (Google's translation is readable at this time finally. Any volunteer rewrite a better translation specially for chinarider.net ? ) that talks key electrical parts in Chinese (old Japanese also very similar) bike.

SL125/200 comes to life!!!!

So started the bike last weekend! Started immediately, and runs pretty well- although seems a bit lean, with a bit of popping on deceleration. Will be working on jetting etc over the next few days. Wow, what a difference in power!

That made my day! I have that very engine in my 200 Lifan; it has been a faithful soldier.

I like to consider all possibilities and plan accordingly.

Plus, I have had exactly that happen before. Why do you think I thought to bring it up. Just food for though.

Nice bike in any case.

Megadan,

You're right- I needed to wire in a kill switch. I guess I was SO tired of a million wires, soldering, connectors etc- I just decided to forego the switch for now. Will wire it up when I finish a few other odds and ends... The engine mounting was easy, but the wiring took probably 50 hrs or more. The more I got into it, the more things I wanted to add. It became like a cancer, but finally decided to get'er done.

A few farkles...

I made, although a bit crude, a small panel with some digital gauges. Outside air temp, Gear selection, and system voltage. It was my first time using a dremel to create something like this... Aluminum, being soft, was fairly easy to work with. All three gauges were purchased via Ebay for about 5-6 bucks apiece. Of course all of them came directly from China. I sealed them up for possible rain exposure.

The outside air temp is very sensitive to voltage, so had to wire in a tiny radio shack 12V regulator for it. They all work well. I mounted them all on bike computer mount that I previously used on the bike for my speedo. I have the old Honda one, but it was NEVER accurate.

Also wired in a USB for my phone/GPS.
