Thanks for any input guys

Check the cap where the cable goes in. A few of us here have changed over to find that the cap on the new carb seats the end of the cable a little higher. This causes the slide inside the carb to not bottom out. Using the cap from the old carb usually fixes the issue.

I actually used the stock cap, spring and needle assembly. And that was my next question,do I need to use the Mikuni spring and needle? I pretty much put the Mikuni on and slid the stock cap, needle and spring right in.Should I set the Mikuni needle on middle notch and at least use the needle and spring?
Thanks again...

I don't think the needle and slide are the same on the two different brand of carburetors.

I would use the Mikuni needle and slide.... if the needle won't go down low enough into the jet it will act like you are giving it throttle. This is probably the high idle you are seeing.

I just made this modification (VM-26). I used the stock cap but used the Mikuni needle and slide. Had to increase the idle actually. I did change the jets though...50 pilot and 115 primary.

Like Darth says, old cap, new for the rest. Usually, the clip on the middle to start.

Ok much better now with Mikuni needle and slide but still little high,I tried adjusting the idle with the screw on the bottom and yeah went too much and it fell out and I can’t find it,so now since it still idles higher than I want,so do I do the jets to make it right?Do I need to replace that screw I lost? Also I have main jets but should I just wait for my pilot jets too before I mess with it again?
Thanks guys...I hate to be a pain but I’m still a newbie.

Yep, you need the screw as it's not the idle adjustment. It's the mixture screw. The idle adjustment is on the side.

It could be your twisting the throttle cable when you screw the cap back on. If that happens it will act like throttle up. Forgot about that one when I posted yesterday.

Oh,thanks a lot.So do you think I should loosen it then re-tighten it while holding the cable. Also besides the idle the carb is NICE;very responsive and a bit faster,I tried playing with the adjustment screw on the side but not too much.Im gonna mess with that again today. It still runs even though I lost the mixture screw on the bottom, but will this cause me problems?I just ordered some mixture adjustment screws from eBay to replace and have spare.

I wouldn't run without the mixture screw. If the balance of air to fuel (lean/rich) is off enough it could damage the engine.

Yeah try holding the throttle cable while you put the top back in. It may or may not help in this case... but at least be mindful of it. It is a part of the troubleshooting process.

Okay so I only got a # 30 pilot jet and an assortment of mains so I went with the 115 main and 30 pilot and replaced the mixture screw. Its just about right but maybe just a little rich.My question is should I change the 115 up or down?I have up to 125 and down to looks like 88.Should I leave the main at 115 and maybe put the stock Mikuni pilot back in or shoul I just play with the mixture screw on the bottom?I have the idle screw turned out more than halfway probably. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the help again in advance.

Hey all in all though, the front wheels are damn near popping off the ground from first gear take off and it still has stock sprockets and chain. I like.

Typically, the base starting point for both the isle and mixing should be around 2 turns out. The main size starting point is based on elevation. Also, it's best to place the C-clip on the jet needle to the middle (usually 3rd) notch.
