I wish. Every project in our office goes through me. Even when I'm home sick in bed I'm still working. If I take one day off it take 3 days to catch back up. lol Nobody here wants my job.

Silva, Did you have to pull the engine or was there enough clearance to remove the head while engine was still mounted on the frame?

There is plenty of clearance once you remove the fuel tank.

Thanks, It look like it would be tight. That's one less step to have to worry about. Any new land speed records? lol

Once you have the head pulled it should only take 1 solid day to get the port work done. Even my more aggressive work could easily be done in a day.

The hard part is getting that 1 day to do it for sure. I know that struggle!

Seat Options

I have sent several seats to Sargent Cycle out of Jacksonville, Florida. Their website is: www.sargentcycle.com. They do great work, but it doesn’t come cheap. They have Super Cell foam that they replace the factory foam with and you can order different materials and trim. It’s going to run me between $200-250 plus shipping. I ordered a spare seat to send off to Sargent Cycle, so I don’t have to be seat-less while they do their magic. When I get the seat back, I’ll post pictures. Here’s some pictures of their work:

That's about what I charged for a nice upholstered seat with new foam and moisture barrier. It's not dirt cheap but not high either. Corbin wants $400-$500 to reshape the foam and sew a cheap imitation leather seat cover for it and install everything.

aftermarket CG250 head?

There are lots of Zhongshen CG250 heads available on ebay for about $75. I have the dremel and all the bits and sanding wheels, but I don't want to have the bike down for an extended period while I work through this, and also a little worried that I could screw it up

So getting anew head seems to be a reasonable approach, and they are not too expensive. But which one!!?? They all seem to have the exhaust gas recirc port blocked off. It would be nice to have the holes drilled there to reinstall it as if it were a working port (!) for inspection.

Does anyone have a preference or knowledge about which vendor is more reliable, which head is likely to be better? I also want to shave it for a little more compression, so the casting needs to be good enough to take all of this abuse!

The last few heads I've done took me about an hour and half. Even if you took your good old time you can still do it in a half a day.

You could always drill and tap the casting and put the pipe back on, it wouldn't be too hard.

It is a good idea. But getting the holes straight would be the challenge. I could use a punch to make a divot to guide the drill, and eyeball the perpendicular angle while drilling...while stepping up in bit sizes I could straighten the holes if needed until at the tap size

*One of the reasons for doing this on a new head is that I don't have blocks of time really. Full time job, family, and a house that periodically needs my attention! Having a spare head to tinker with for an hour or two while the motorcycle is intact and ridable is preferable

Also, I can add the 4degree advance key at the same time when I swap out.

If it works and I end up with a good head, I could port and polish the OEM and sell it to offset the cost of the new head.
