Warp9 sells the 2.50-17 rim, which I bought on eBay. You can also buy the rim directly from Warp9.

I laced the 1.60-21 rim to the front wheel for better off road handling, lighter weight, and a much greater selection of knobby tires from which to choose. Narrower front tires work much better in mud and sand than wider front tires. The narrower front tire bites deeper into the loose/soft earth while seeking, and finding better traction. The wider front tires tend more to float over the loose/soft earth, and are much more likely to wash out. The wider tires are also much heavier, adding to the unsprung weigh of the wheels.

What I think makes this an extra valid article is that Rob has not only been riding for years and is a HUGE adventure off-road guy but he's also an instructor at RawHyde Adventures.....The BMW off-road training facility in California. He just doesn't bring the RX3 to work :-)

That was a very fair review of the RX3. It won't change the mind and hearts of the haters....but then again who cares. I love my RX3 and don't need their agreement.

The article is titled "Impressions", not a shoot out. Rob owns both of the bikes in the article and he's sharing his impressions, not pontificating.

I don't see anything wrong with the article nor do I see the bikes as "vastly different, simply different breeds of the same species, kind of like evaluating whether an Arabian or a Clydesdale is more suited for a particular equine task.

What's your guess for RX3's in the US?

Mine guess is ~500.

All of the women in Colombia were stunning. It was one of the best rides ever, on one of the best motorcycles ever.
