ok thanks, that made sense to me too, just wanted to make sure there wasn't something i was missing as a reason it had to be there. see there is one on the other side too. as far as the angle up and down of the handlebars, is it just preference or best to have them as straight up as possible?

Setting the angle of the handlebars is personal preference. Most people prefer the bars to be upright. I suggest you set them upright; if you wish, you can easily rotate them later to suit your personal preference.

I start by trying to maintain the angle of the forks, as viewed from the side. I adjust for comfort from there.
