New from BC Canada

Just picked up a gio atv and found this forum while searching info on it.

Pic of it coming. Looking for as much info on it as possible
I'm pretty sure it's a 2006. I know it's a 150cc gy6
But want to know if it's long case ect and common mods (cvt carb ect)

Is there a common tire swap or rims ?
I'm wanting to go like 22" tires aswell

It runs amazing. But smokes like a 2 stroke
Probably replace cylinder avd piston this winter but wanting to find best bang for buck
Performance wise

More top speed would be nice. Avd is there ways to improve handling avd stability ?

Welcome!

I have the very same quad. I can't remember, but I think I flipped the front rims around for a wider track. Perhaps you can do the same.

I also removed the ridiculous airbox, because it was brutal to access. I added some ABS pipe to the original carb boot and extended it to the area under the seat. It looks like I cut the plastic with a steak knife.

Katoranger is our resident CVT expert; he can likely guide you in terms of performance upgrades.

It has it qwerks but I'll get them all worked out.
It's actually my wife's atv wanted one forever picked this up used for what I feel a diecent price

Kick start is broken on it. Need to pull off cover to see wich gear is stripped so I can order it.

She likes it other then the tires are to small lol
And when riding. Over bumps it likes to dart side to side. Not sure if that's something that's fixable. Or just gotta learn to deal with kinda thing

I'm going to put together a list of things I want to do to it this winter. For this year. I won't be doing much to it.

Ours was my wife's, and now it's our daughter's.

Yeah, you just gotta deal with the darting issue. It's called bumpsteer, and it can't be corrected unless you're good at fabrication. Keep the speed down and enjoy it for what it is.

We used ours to tow jr. dragsters in Ashcroft, while riding two-up. Tough little quad.

Where in BC are you?

What size tires does it have? For more power I would suggest changing the clutch springs and installing some sliders in the variator pulley. The other thing is to change to lower gearing at the axle. This will reduce top speed, but give you alot more go power.

I would suggest getting the 1500 rpm (yellow I think) springs. What I have in the buggy works well and it sees 2 people use and weighs alot more than an atv. The tires are about 22 inches on it.

Kicks start gears are extremely simple under the belt cover. Get a new belt while you are in there. All parts easily found online.

Has 19" tires. Are sprockets available for this machine ?

That's about your only plausible option. I drilled a new rear sprocket for midlifekrisis' wife's quad, but I wouldn't recommend it. We had to go that route for her quad, since the rear sprocket was worn right out.

The front sprocket isn't really a countershaft sprocket, since it actually mounts where the rear wheel would be on a scooter. If you remove your existing front sprocket, you can compare it with what's available online.

Glad to hear you found it useful. I highly recommend that you pack the outer tapered rollers with grease, so you don't have to replace them like I did.

Is there a cheep exhaust that's worth while putting on these ?
I looked at the carb and it says "japan" on the side. I'm assuming it's not stock ?

Little more about my other rides lol. I'm addicted to trikes I have a 1984 200es big red my baby lol. A 83 200e big red A 84 yamaha tri moto 200e and a parts 84 200es
Also picked up a 1981 honda xl80s. Currently my work in progress

The carb is likely stock; I think it's a Keihin CV carb.

I'd like to learn about Honda trikes from you. I'd specifically like to know more about shaft drive quads, because I want to get ahold of a rear axle for a street-legal trike project. Is your Big Red shaft driven?
