Zongshen ZSM 200gy

Hi

I just bought my first bike (Zongshen ZSM 200c) and must say i am very happy with the bike.
I will be using the bike mainly for on-road riding , but want to make a few changes to enhance the performance.

i have heard i few mods that can be done to increase HP and top end speed.

1.cdi unit.
2.upgrade exhaust
3.air filter
4.spark plugg
5.oil filter.
6.smaller rear sprocket.

also at top speed the bike gives little jerks/pulls like its cutting out or flooding. Any ideas?

Welcome fellow Zongite!

I don't know of any CDI unit which works better than the stock CDI unit. In fact, I don't know of any alternative CDI unit for your Zong. However, I do encourage you to get at least one, spare CDI unit for your bike. All of the Chinese CDI units are prone to failure, and the Zong is no exception. Having a spare CDI unit on hand allows you to keep riding instead of waiting for a replacement to arrive. Also, a spare CDI unit greatly facilitates troubleshooting problems with the electrical system.

Likewise, I think the stock air filter, oil filter, and NGK, D8EA spark plugs work great.

However, your bike's engine will definitely produce more power if you install an FMF Universal Spark Arrestor. You will find several threads describing this installation, and a lot of other useful information, in the Zong Sticky, located at the top of this Dual Sport Forum.

The ZS200GY-2 comes with a stock, 15T/46T sprocket combination in the United States. If your bike has this sprocket combination, I don't think you will effectively get more speed with different sprockets. The engine doesn't have enough power to sustain higher gearing.

Incidentally, that's a good looking Zong. You also earned bonus points by including a photo of your bike in your first post.

Spud, would the his top end cutting out be a sign of a failing CDI?

SgtRope, I encourage you to follow SpudRider's guidance. His bike has over 100,000km on it, and it's still running strong. If you try to force more power out of it, my guess is that you will compromise longevity. Spud's careful mods have incresed reliability, and the bike is a pleasure to ride (I've had 16 hours of seat time on it).

Perhaps, but I would first suspect either a dirty air filter, or a worn spark plug. Nevertheless, it's important to get a spare CDI unit for any Chinese motorcycle for both replacement, and troubleshooting purposes.

If the bike is used, the carburetor might need to be cleaned in Pine Sol. At sea level the stock carburetor jets should work well, unlike most other Chinese motorcycles, which are jetted lean. At my riding elevations of 4,400-10,400 feet above sea level, I needed to drop two sizes on the main jet, even after I installed an aftermarket, FMF spark arrestor. The Zong comes stock with the proper main jet all the TW200 owners install to correct the too lean condition of their identical, Teikei MV28 carburetors.

my zong also was bit twitchy when i bought it (used) Problem for me was in used up drive chain. when i put up a new chain bike started working smooth. Top speed is 117kmh (GPS) on flat surface.
Fuel consumption is bit less than a gallon (around 4L).
You can get a bit more power by some sport muffler and air filter but your fuel consumption will increase. I'd advise against it cos this ain't a supermoto...it just looks like one. I suggest that you ride it until you feel you overgrown it and then (if your finances allow it) buy stronger supermoto bike for power (yamaha xtx, ktm lc4, husaberg 450 etc...)

Also...on your picture i can see that brake fluid hose is hanging very loosely too far away from where it should be (forks left tube) so you might wanna see to it before it gets caught in something and leave you without brakes when you need them

Thanks you so much for all the info , its highly appreciated. I will be doing an oil filter , oil and spark plugg change today. I just checked the oil filter and it was very dirty , also found very fine metal shavings on the filter which is not a good sign I suppose.
What will my best bet be for oil.

My mirrors where rateling in the housing so I used clear silicone and forced some into the little groove between the mirror and housing , rattling gone.
Thanks again for all the help.

Any non-energy conserving oil lower than 20W is fine. Personally, I use 15W40 diesel oil all year, but I would use 10W40 if we experienced cold winters in my area (we don't).

I agree with Weld. I like a good, commercial, 15W/40 motor oil. However, any good motor oil will serve you well. Just make sure to change the oil at least every 2,000 kms. I change my engine oil every 1,000 miles (1,609 kms). You will probably be wise to change you engine oil every time the odometer turns over 1,000 kms. I also clean my oil filter every time I change the engine oil.
