Looking for a SSR bike or dealer in IL

Hey everyone. I am trying to find a dealer for the SSRs in IL and haven't had any luck. Is my only option going to be to mail order one? If I mail order one, I will have to get it titled myself correct? I'm not looking forward to doing that in IL if I can help it.

I like these bikes but I am beginning to think that it may just be better to get a new or slightly used Yamaha XT250 and stop messing around trying to save a couple thousand bucks that I would get back out of the bike when I sell it anyway. Find me a shop nearby when I can walk in, plunk down 3 grand and walk out with a titled and register bike and I would go for it.

At this point, it doesn't even have to be the SSR. TMEC, QLINK whatever. As long as it is a dual sport and I walk out without worrying about titling/registering it then I would be happy.

Someone answered you about chicago tool or something like that on your intro thread...they show the Lifan GY-5 200 which is probably half price to what you are willing to spend; otherwise, used Japanese for sure. Don't spend forever and a day looking for a Chinese bike (even though the SSR would be a great bike); otherwise spend your time and money on used.

Personally, I would thoroughly search the market for used, Japanese motorcycles before I spent $2,000 on any new, Chinese motorcycle.

The used search is pretty frustrating. Anything I am seeing for around $2,000 is pretty much junk and when you go over that, it starts to make sense to get a new DR250s or CRF250L. I really want an SSR XF250 but the cheapest I can find them for is around $3K.

If you are willing to trailer the bike home, you can purchase a new, CRF250L for $4,344 at Honda East, in Toledo, Ohio. I have visited Honda East on several occasions, and it is a reputable dealer. Honda East doesn't add any bogus fees, you only pay $4,344, plus a small fee for a temporary tag. You will pay Illinois sales tax after you get the bike home.

The SSR XF250 looks like a good bike, but when it is selling for $3,000, the Honda represents a much better value. You won't have any problems getting the Honda registered, and locating parts will never be a problem.

I could get a CRF250L around here at around that price I think. If I can find a Lifan, Qlink or TMEC around here for $1,600 I'll probably go for it. I got a couple of dealers close by checking into what they can get for that price. In the meantime I am going to keep an eye out for something used. Someone about an hour north of me has a Super Sherpa used that looks pretty nice.

That sounds like a good plan.

Any luck with that tool place that sells the GY 5 Lifan? Www.atv4usa.com is the distributor for TMEC dualsports and should be able to send you a brand new bike for $1600 shipped, provided they don't have any retailers they sell to nearby (they give their retailers geographic territories). Also, you have to assemble it...

I talked to 2 guys at two different places that were going to get back to me, but they never did despite follow-up attempts. I'm probably gonna just get a Jap 250 sometime this winter. Season's almost over for us in Northern IL.

If you can't get a vendor to take your money, that's a bad sign. If you are patient, I'm sure you can find a good deal on a slightly used, Japanese bike. You can also find good deals on new, Honda CRF250L motorcycles.
