Shocks that aren't shocks

Hey there, I bought the kids a gio ATV style quad a couple of years ago. The first couple of times out I noticed that the shocks were rock hard. I disassembled the front ones and found that the shock was fake. I cut about 1 1/2 turns from the spring and reassembled them. I haven't done the back but want to. (next)

Has anyone retrofitted real shocks into theirs?

I thought those old snowmobiles with the shocks on the skis would be close.

If anyone has something to add or a solution I'm all ears, thanks.

If your refering to the kids quads as being the 50cc 2 stroke those shocks are pretty small. Only way to retro I would think would be to use mountain bike shocks. The cost of a retro with those kinds of shocks would be too much for the value of the quad.

Shocks that aren't shocks

Sorry should have mentioned this was for the 110cc Gio ATV. When I took them apart they are pretty standard size. I compared against the wifes phazer (rear skid) and its darn close. The next step is to go through the monroe book and pick something I can mount the springs on.

I thought given the amount of time these things have been out there, someone may had found something that was a bolt in, that is a real shock of course!
