Anyone have a Roku box?

Signed up for netflix, will be getting my TV next week.

Does anyone have one of the roku streaming devices or a similar product they would recommend?

I just use netflix on my computer, which I have hooked up to my tv. That box looks like a nice setup though.

I have an 'old school' tv, which my Netflix streams into via my son's Wii.

We're using an Xbox.

I currently use a PS3.

My near term plan is to use XBMC on a Raspberry Pi (which finally arrived!) and do this:

I'd have to ask Son of Weldangrind that question, but I know that he plays online quite a bit. Perhaps that's the value for him.

Indeed it is, if you are going to be using the xbox live for online gaming, then you need to subscribe (unlike the ps3), but I pretty much only use my xbox as a dvd player, so I didn't want to give Microsoft an extra $35 to $70 a year just to watch netflix.

Sounds like everyone except Jim uses a gaming system. I may consider a Wii purchase. We thought about one before.

Thanks for the info.

Any certain model Wii I need? Is there any additional fee involved?

I just got my Netflix service, so am on the trial offer; from what I can tell, there is no extra fee for the Wii. Our Wii is probably 4 or 5 years old (don't know the model, but it might just be called the standard Wii--look at garage sales or CL for instance).

Seems my coworker's brother has a wii for sale with games. Sounds like no additional fee to use it for wifi either.

He wants $75 which is about the going rate on ebay and cheaper than the roku box.

With the Wii you won't be getting HD picture. Not sure if that matters to you. The Wii's have wifi built in. They're all the same as far as I know, the only difference between various special models is the color of the console, but I could be wrong.

Does Netflix offer HD material?

Yes, but it will scale it down if/when your bandwidth decreases (e.g. kids start playing games or downloading).

HD is not really necessary. I just found out that the Wii is coming with some extras that I will likely not need. Ebay. Maybe recover some of my investment.
