hello... appreciate all the valuable info here.
I've been researching my options for ordering a 200cc dual sport from the internet and this website has been quite valuable.
I'm still unsure as to what would be my best option. So far I have it narrowed down to: http://orionpitbikesales.com/opbs-200cc-enduro.htm http://www.supersportz.com/index.php...oducts_id=1095 However, what I would really like would be one of the 21/18 setups like a Roketa DB07 but I havn't found a good source online yet. Any advice on best bike, best price, best source would be greatly appreciated. |

only problem I see with orion bike is the 15 in rear rim. If you plan on using as a dual sport I'd stay away from it cause can't get dual sport 15 in tires. Unless you can get someone to lace an 18 in wheel on it. Spud?

Welcome! Those are both nice looking bikes at a fair price, but I would lean towards the TMEC. It looks like it has a much nicer saddle; it resembles the saddle that is on Spud's Zong, and he's had it for 45000 miles.
I don't have any direct experience with either of those bikes, but I'd like to.

Just called Orion sales guy assured me I would have no problem finding dual sport or off road tires for this bike.

You guys rock.
If I go with the 17/17 TMEC, would that be safe and comfortable at 50MPH on the road? I live in VT and orginaly was just looking for an offroad bike, but found the dual sport solution and would be using this to offroad and to commute 15 miles on non highway at speeds up to 50mph. I'm really new at this. |

The 17/17 combo isn't particularly off-road bred. It makes a terrific Supermoto, but a 17" front wheel will find every rut and try to make you do a Superman. A 21/18 is a much more D/S-oriented bike.

That's where I'm weak, because we don't have many China D/S bikes in Canada. MICRider has a Konker (the Canadian version of the Q-Link, IIRC), and I believe that he has both Supermoto rims and D/S rims with it. That allows you to have the best of both worlds.

Welcome! We are glad you joined us!
The other gentlemen have given you good advice. You won't be able to find 15-inch, knobby tire for the rear wheel of the bike at the Orion website. :( As the photographs show, you can get 17-inch knobby tires for the TMEC 200, but these wheels will not perform as well as the 18"/21" wheels of a true, dual sport motorcycle. Just doing a very quick search, I found links to two websites selling the Roketa DB-07. Both bikes are priced less than the ones you listed, and both bikes include free shipping. http://www.nationalwholesaletools.co...del-DB-07.HTML http://www.scooterdynasty.com/200ccroketadb-07.aspx However, I don't know anything about either vendor, or whether they actually have motorcycles in stock to sell. If these vendors are legitimate, I would rather get a Roketa DB-07, with conventional, dual sport wheels, than either of the two bikes you listed. I investigated both links further, and discovered bad news. :( One vendor seems to be out of business, and the other vendor is out of stock.
Here are two more vendors. Once again, I don't know anything about these vendors, or whether they have any bikes in stock. http://www.shopbccycles.com/db-07-2.html http://360offroad.com/dirtbikes.htm SSR Motorsports claims they will have the 200cc and 250cc, Qingqi bikes for sale in May. However, both these bike have 17-inch wheels, the same as the TMEC 200. http://www.ssrmotorsports.com/store/enduro/xf200.htm http://www.ssrmotorsports.com/store/enduro/xf250.htm Spud

You can also contact Roketa.com and see if they can recommend a vendor.

This guy is a member, although has not posted in a while--he had started a thread a while ago:
He rode some light off-road in the video--watch till the end; after the music, he has sound of the bike after removing a very restrictive baffle inside the exhaust. He bought it from mefast, I think: http://mefastmotors.com/wholesale-mo...otorcycle.html These guys http://atv4usa.com/ are wholesalers, but might sell a bike to you directly if you aren't near any of their retailers (the key is to say you might be interested in carrying their lineup at a store you plan to open, and you want to buy a sample). The reason I mention them is that they have some videos on youtube which are quite boring of the TMEC and other products they carry. However, one video show 3 bikes just after assembly being started up and one of them is a true dual-sport version of the TMEC, rather than a motard. another video shows a bike being ridden:

The TMEC 200 is theoretically available in both supermoto and dual sport forms. However, when I visited a TMEC 200 dealer in Utah, and rode the bike, the dealer told me he didn't know which version of the TMEC 200 he would receive until he opened the crates! 8O For a quite a while now, I have only seen the supermoto version for sale in the United States. Here's a link to my review of the TMEC 200 I posted a while ago. The TMEC 200 information begins on page 4 of this thread, after I reviewed the Pister Pro LXT 400.

As Weldangrind stated, the TMEC 200 has a very nice saddle.
However, in addition to the 17-inch wheels, the TMEC 200 lacks a mud flap to cover the shock absorber in front of the rear wheel. You really need a mud flap in this location if you will be riding off road. I suppose one could fabricate a mud flap, but it could be more problematic than one thinks. Spud
