Adding lights

Looking at adding a headlight to my bike. Is there a wire coming from the stator that I can tap into for power? I know id need a regulator which is no problem for me since wiring and improvising is my forte haha just wanted to know if there is any sort of output at all. Thanks![/code]

What bike do you have? On my GIO 250 I would just run a wire from the positive of the battery terminal.

Its a flywing 150cc. Has no battery or lights, just electronic ignition that's it. I've been told its an overbored cg125/honda xr200r knockoff

I don't know if you have a lighting coil or charging stator.

What's the easiest way to tell Katoranger? If having either of those two is a requirement, I dont guess that it has either, since it's not fitted with a battery (to charge) or lights to light.

Open the cover & see what's inside
"standard" CDI CG clone w/o electric start using this http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=5698941967 as stock. The REAL or clone are using YB3L-A.

Im still lost as to what i need to be looking for in the flywheel cover. I know the system produces AC, but as far as charging/lighting coils go, there's nothing you can see. If I end up needing to go with a different stator, do I need to get a different flywheel too? Seems you could just tap in to the high voltage lead going to the CDI, throw a regulator and diodes in line with a light and be good to go? I read a rediculous amount of AC power with my meter, going to the CDI unit. How much does the CDI *actually* need?

Im skilled but don't have much money to spare. Got a mini-me on the way to save up for. I was getting about 35vac output when kicking over if memory serves

you know, i was in my gfs garage the other day and saw a headlight kit for a bicycle, with a little mini generator that's like a little wheel that spins on the rim and gets electricty like that. i started wondering what would happen if i put it on my bike, because it's made for a bicycle, not anything going over 2 mph. but if it did work, couldn't you use it for other things besides the headlight? you could put in a 12v adaptor and charge your phone while you ride your bike...

anyways, just an idea.

That just simply would not be rugged enough, when that same tire/rim is going through knee deep water, smashing up against tree limbs and whatever else you'd come in contact with out in the middle of nowhere. I imagine, though, you could make it to run off the flywheel, but you'd be forced to mod and probably fiberglass up an extention to the flywheel cover to cover that generator thing up. Too much work, and probably wouldnt have that much output. I think it'd be easier to switch out the magneto/flywheel assembly, when it all boils down. I'm still hung up on the power requirements of the ignition though...Logic tells me I should be able to leech some power off the AC leads going to the CDI unit. If that is true, I could throw some diodes in the lines (making a rectifier in a sense) if I needed DC.
