Zongshen 250cc

Hello all-
New to the forum. I am looking at a Zongshen 250cc motor to bolt into a Yamaha TTR230 that has a blown engine. Looking for something that is more of a direct bolt in replacement, with little modification (I'm not a welder). This is what I'm looking at:

http://www.elstars.com.au/products/z...-4t-p-194.html

It looks like the exhaust is in a similar position and pointing the right way (the exhaust on the TTR wraps around the frame and comes in on the left hand side). Just curious if anyone has seen this done or done it themselves and can tell me if it is something that I would be able to do. I might have to get a new carb, and figure out the electronics. But my main concern is if the engine is compatible with the bike itself. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Welcome! Excellent screen name. 8)

The engine you're looking at is a Honda clone, and I'm not sure if the mounting pattern is the same. If you care to take some mounting point measurements from what you have, I'll be happy to measure some Honda stuff and tell you if it's the same.

If not, a Zongshen 200cc engine from a Sierra might be a bolt-in, because they're cloned from a cross between a TW200 and an XT225 (my guess is that they're an exact copy of an old BW200). Not sure if the TTR has the same bolt pattern as XT / TW / BW, but worth a look. Several members here have Sierras, so I'm sure that somebody could confirm for you, again after you provide measurements.

The 250cc engine in your link is a Honda clone, and it won't bolt into your TT-R230 frame. :( The Zongshen 200GY-2 engine is a Yamaha clone, and it will bolt into your TT-R230 frame. The TT-R230 employs the same engine as the XT-225, and TT-R225 motorcycles. All these engine share the same engine block with the XT200, TW200, and Zongshen 200GY-2 motorcycles.

You're welcome. Incidentally, the Zongshen Sierra is the same bike as the Zongshen 200GY-2, which s identical to the discontinued, QLink X-Ranger.
