Plating a china bike in WV

Wow, this couldn't be any easier! I just called my Progressive agent, where I already have both my 2005 KTM 950 and my 2002 Polaris 500HO are insured. My new Jialing Viva VX200SX will cost me a whopping $10.05 until my policy renewal in July. The renewal is $48 and some change for a year! Awesome!

Anyway, the agent tells me for $15.90 she will do all the paperwork and apply for my new title for me. No dealing with DMV. They have never had a problem and have titled a few vehicles with MCOs. I'm going in the morning to have everything done. I'll be transfering a plate that I already have, so costs should be minimal. I was thinking of putting this off until the bike was finished but they don't need to see it and could careless what it looks like.

MDSuave, move to WV! Seriously, I hope you finally got your plate and are on the road!

WOW who's your agent? I'm in VA and would consider using them long distance Its worth more than that to not have to deal with my local DMV for anything. Glad to hear you got a great deal.

Man oh Man

I gotta move to WV. Three times I go to NJDMV,three different stories still no plate!!!!!!!
trip1- told I need a federal odometer statement
trip2-no mention of odometer statement this time problem is Viva is not in their BOOK of Motorcycles but not to worry they'll check and call me
(still waiting)
trip3- My photos of epa stickers(which they require) were not clear enough

I am starting to sense an anti-china bike bias here

When I registered mine, the gal kept saying "Tomato" Industries instead of "Tomoto." I corrected her before she put that on the books.

MOTOXtreme, the agent is Gates Insurance in Fairmont, WV. I talked with Bridget. I really don't think they're going to be able to help you in VA though. If you are serious PM me.

I just couldn't believe they didn't want to see the bike and the EPA sticker, the original invoice or Bill of Sale. Nothing, Nada, ZIP... I've got to pay $40 in sales tax and the license fees and a $5 doc stamp fee but that's basically it. I'm not counting my chickens yet but she made the whole deal sound worth my time. I'm riding my 950 tomorrow to get it all done. She needs a washjob too! I'll take car of that while I'm out!

Hey, check this out! Rode this badboy today! I'm in love! I hate it when I hijack my own threads. Go to the Street section and checkout the thread by PolygonFla titled "MBD hits hard" to comment on the SD990, please. I'll post there!

Hey, where is everyone? I actually just picked the bike up for a test ride. I know the manager pretty well and he offered a few of us test rides. When you buy 6 or 7 bikes from a guy you tend to get a few perks. Riding the newest and coolest bikes is one of them. Unlimited access to the third floor new and used bikes, is another.

I did my license and insurance this morning. The title and transfer fees were $15.50, $40 taxes, $15.90 fees and no dealing with DMV, PRICELESS!

my insurance cost me 148 dollars a year for liability, who needs full coverage on a 1300 dollar bike?

my tags on the other hand were insane.. took me 9 trips to the mva i believe... i know the t-motorsports #'s personally and am best friends with "angel" there.

it cost me 174.80 to title my bike in maryland for 2 years.

c'est la vie. Thats just how it is...

Well, I had a small issue with my transfered plate. It seems as though WV is changing all motorcycle plates this year. They would not just transfer my plate nfrom my Zuma scooter. Bridget from my insurance office called me and told me about it last Tuesday. I sent my wife down yesterday to give them $10.50 more and I'll get a new plate in a few weeks. The transfer of my old plate was free with the renewal so, I'm legal for the next month until the new plate gets here.

Easy as pie!

mdsuave13,
Glad you finally got the bike plated. Maybe we can get together for that Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway ride? PM me and maybe we can work something out. I'm sure Pumpkin will be up for it too! I'm going out of the country in July 31st and I'll be on vacation for 22 days or so! It will probably need to be after that! Late Aug or Sept? A Friday, Saturday and Sunday would be best for me! Let me know!

Plates, Title and Registration DONE!

My new license plate and registration came a few days ago. Yesterday, I received the new West Virginia title for my 2006 Jialing Viva VX200SX. During the whole thing I never made one trip to the DMV. My local Progressive Insurance office did everything. DMV never wanted to see the bike and I had no hoops to jump through.

Just thought I would post an update and say how easy this was in West Virginia and that I am done with it! One trip to the insurance office to deal with Bridget. Painless!
