Solenoid failure
The solenoid blew on my LF200GY-2 a few weeks ago; I managed to get a replacement, which worked for a week or so, then that one went - what might cause a repeated solenoid failure?
Unfortunately, this has coincided with a flare-up of an old knee injury, so kick-starting is a rather painful option... |

The only thing I can think of is high current draw. If the starter took excessive current to spin it, that could take out the solenoid. Battery voltage that is too low would also result in increased current draw, but you'd notice that with very slow cranking. Holding the starter button on too long could also kill the solenoid. I'm betting that you just got a bad one. |

The starter was turning just fine and I never had to crank it for long to get it started. Just one day working, the next not, in both cases. Guess I'll just go for a replacement and cross my fingers... (funny thing - for years I thought an electric starter had no place on a dirt bike, now I actually miss it!) |
I love the magic button. It is especially useful if the engine stalls at an intersection, like with a new rider.

I won't own a bike without the 'magic button." ;) Indeed, one is much safer riding on the street with an electric starter. :)

My first car was bought cheap due to no start. The problem was someone didn't tighten the nut on the solenoid.
China solenoids have been bad out of the box. |
Just fitted a new one and it blew straight away :(

The solenoid failed immediately? If so, has the wiring been tampered with at all?
If the wiring is in good order, perhaps the starter is the problem. They're certainly cheap enough to replace. |
The wiring looks to be good. I did find one place where it could have been shorting, but i replaced that when I changed the solenoid. I'll see if I can source a starter, thanks.
